23. CHALLENGE™ Charts
Trail, the Santa Fe Trail and the pony express Trail This takehome version of the Wild west chart works in conjunction with a social studies or us history unit
http://www.thepedometercompany.com/chalchar.html
While it may be physically impossible to accomplish some of these feats, our CHALLENGE™ Charts provide participants with an appreciation of exactly how far it is across the United States, to Hawaii, or along the trails traveled by pioneers.
These posters allow individuals or teams to chart their steps by the day or week. As time goes by, the cumulative totals of all the teams are added together toward the group goal.
CHALLENGE™ Charts are a great way to add some spice to a corporate fitness program or a school walking program.
Other activities can be incorporated easily into these themes. For schools, this might mean a unit in U.S. history. For adult participants, this might mean a luau to celebrate the achievement of a fitness goal.
(CHALLENGE™ Charts are non-returnable.)
Want a super discount off several NEW-LIFESTYLES products? Learn more about our new Advantage Customer Discount program!
Chart dimensions: 22" x 36"
This take-home version of the U.S. chart works the same way as the larger version; the difference is that its goals are geared for individual or small group use. This works well for dedicated walkers/runners who plan to use the chart for many weeks or who accumulate large numbers of steps. Take-home charts make a good prize or incentive for kids! There is a discount if you purchase a quantity of 10 or more. Chart dimensions: 11" x 18"
NOTE: Some routes would take a long time for individuals to accomplish at 10,000 steps a day!

Acting as scientists accompanying an explorer on his journey, students apply their observational skills to familiar surroundings to "discover" something they may have seen hundreds of times. The difference is that this time they are going to look at familiar surroundings with a scientist's eye. The activity can be creatively adapted in many ways. Discovering Unknown Countries Activity
Most people are curious about lands they've only heard about or seen in pictures and films, but never visited. This activity takes advantage of students' natural curiosity about other countries to encourage them to learn more about them. Setting the stage with "I wonder what .... is like," questions on index cards, students find answers to questions about unknown countries and share them with the class. A great unit introductory activity. Explorer Research Activity
This activity requires the student to choose and research a specific explorer. The student must then research the explorer using the printable graphic organizer provided on this page. It involves activities such as tracing routes, illustrating clothing, designing and comparing maps (both before and after discovery), writing a creative story from the explorer's point of view, making a transportation collage, and setting time aside to orally present the project.
