Reds under the beds!
When I read in the NZ Herald that John Key has accused the Government of communism , I thought it might be a bit over the top. But upon reflection I've decided it a damn fair call - when you consider communism in the economic not the political sense. The communist economies have everyone paid by the state and basically for example caretakers don't get paid much less than lawyers or doctors. Everyone is equal comrade. Well if you read the NZ Herald story, you will find that Labour is now redistrbuting wealth so much that a family on $60,000 income only get to keep $2,376 of the $22,000 income difference between them and a family on $38,000. Yep almost a 90% effectuve tax rate for middle income families. I have no problems with a Government providing income support to people as a safety net so they can eat, have shelter, education and health care etc. Of course we should. But Labour has gone miles beyond this. They now take money off a single person earning $30,000 and give it to a family on $100,000 if they have enough kids. Families on $40,000 with two kids don't now pay a cent of tax - they are now effectively state beneficiaries. The changes made by Labour go beyond helping families in need to income redistribution on an unprecedented scale. Just think about the incentives now in place. You might be in your job earning $38,000. Over the next five years you work your guts out, you do heaps of unpaid over-time, and you get three promotions and end up on $60,000. However your take home pay hardly changes at all - you get only $10 a day more after five years and three promotions.

Tennessee politics and elections changed dramatically
in the last half of the 20th Century
At the end of World War II, Tennessee was dominated by the Democratic political machine of Memphis boss Ed Crump in league with U.S. Sen. Kenneth McKellar, a crusty former New Dealer. Republicans weren't a statewide force at all. Though historically strong in East Tennessee, they traded their statewide influence to Boss Crump in exchange for control of local patronage. From 1948 to 1966, this political order collapsed, primarily in three events: Estes Kefauver defeated Crump's candidate for the Senate in 1948, Albert Gore Sr. defeated McKellar in 1952 and Republican Howard Baker won statewide office in 1966. In 1970, Republicans swept all top statewide offices. Since then, the two parties have been highly competitive. Democrats regained the upper hand by the mid-1980s only to be swept out by a Republican landslide in 1994. Also during this era, the Tennessee Legislature emerged as an independent branch of government after decades of domination by the governor. Legislative redistricting in the wake of the Supreme Court's

    Abstract
Transhumanism is an emergent philosophical movement which says that humans can and should become more than human through technological enhancements. Contemporary transhumanism has grown out of white, male, affluent, American Internet culture, and its political perspective has generally been a militant version of the libertarianism typical of that culture. Nonetheless transhumanists are becoming more diverse, with some building a broad liberal democratic philosophic foundation in the World Transhumanist Association. A variety of left futurist trends and projects are discussed as a proto-“democratic transhumanism.” The essay also discusses the reaction of transhumanists to a small group of neo-Nazis who have attempted to attach themselves to the transhumanist movement. For the transhumanist movement to grow and become a serious challenge to their opposites, the bio-Luddites, they will need to distance themselves from their elitist anarcho-capitalist roots and clarify commitments to liberal democratic institutions, values and public policies. By embracing political engagement and the use of government to address equity, safety and efficacy concerns about transhuman technologies, transhumanists are in a better position to attract a larger, broader audience.
