The statue will be dedicated in memory of Dot Fitzgibbon. Sculpted by Tom Fitzgibbon and named after his grandson, "L'il Max," was donated by the artist and his family in memory of their wife and mother. Dot Fitzgibbon was a volunteer for Newton Food Pantry, RSVP and other organizations. With a lifelong love of learning, she earned a degree in gerontology at the age of 68. Her love of reading was fostered by the library which she used extensively. When Tom Fitzgibbon retired as an electrical engineer at MIT and Draper Lab, he refined his lifelong avocational interest in sculpture, soon becoming accepted into the juried N.E. Sculptors Association. Eventually he became president and brought a group show to the library in 1994. Tom Fitzgibbon's work concentrates on the "beautiful expressiveness of the human form," he says. He has exhibited widely throughout New England, recently at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the New Bedford Art Museum, the Attleboro Art Museum, the Manchester, N.H. Airport and other places.

INTRODUCTION In order to create a conducive environment for pupils to learn English in the school, the English Language programme will take a multi-pronged approach in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. In view of the varied backgrounds of the pupils where English is not used in the homes, the school’s emphasis on English will be in the right direction as the language is the prerequisite for pupils to do well in other subjects.
The components of the English Language programme are SILENT READING This serves to promote interest and the habit of reading. The first 20 minutes for 2 days of the week will be set aside for this programme. Teachers serve as role models as they read with their pupils during this period
READING SCHEME TEST This aims to encourage pupils to read a minimum of three books per term. Pupils of a class will buy the books to read and sit for the Reading Scheme Test which consist of 20 multiple choice questions at the beginning of the following term. The marks make up 10% of the Continual Assessment for English.

COMPOSITION
LINKS: Other Links: City College of San Francisco
ESL 82 Advanced Composition CRN 33515 Spring, 2004 Instructor: Margaret Benshoof-Holler In ESL 82, you will write compositions which include clear and defined thesis statements, paragraphs with topic sentences that support the thesis statements, and concluding paragraph that tie the papers together. You will write papers using a number of different styles presented in the class reading assignments and lectures. You will be expected to find research materials that will help you support your thesis statements. You will also keep journals from which you will learn to draw ideas for your writing. You will practice free writing and other creative writing techniques to help loosen up and generate writing. Sentence, grammar and writing structure work will be assigned to help refine writing. There will be three in-class papers and three out-of-class papers due during the semester. Papers are to be turned in on time. Late papers will lose points. Papers are to be typed double-spaced and turned in in the proper format. You can rewrite to bring up your grade. Papers and rewrite points will be averaged together for a final grade for each paper. Rewrites are not a reflection of success or failure in writing. Rewriting is an important tool in learning. It helps you refine and polish your work. Most published writers do revisions of their work before they appear in print. Think of the teacher as your editor, not your critic. She wants to help you do your best. Also, rewrites can help bring your grade up. Original grade and all rewrite grades will be averaged for a final grade for each paper.
