The way of doing
The easiest way to proceed would be to "go multimedia" and arrive at yet another mass-market product with miserable cartographic quality. Instead, we choosed the "GIS way" for two main reasons: 1) to be true with geographic reality and 2) to save our efforts in the future. We shall rely almost exclusively on AVISO GIS technology throughout the project. This really means two things:

    General Information about Geography
Poland is one of the larger countries in Europe (the land area 312, 638 sq. km making it the 9th largest country in Europe and the 66th in the world). The country is situated in very hart of Europe. It has a two-level administrative division: first is divided into 49 voivodships, which are then divided into 2,459 communes. The territory of Poland is compact and resembles a circle it lies in the basin of the Vistula (the longest Polish river - 1047 km) and Oder rivers, in the European Lowland and between the Baltic Sea and the arc of the Carpathian Mountains. Farthest to the south lies Oplonek Peak. Farthest to the north is the Rozewie Cape. The major historical cities like Warsaw, Cracow, Sandomierz, Kazimierz, Plock, Torun and Gdansk were built along the Vistula river. Modern architecture coexists with historical quarters that, like the Old towns in Warsaw and Gdansk, Cracow's center, and the market places of Kazimierz and Sandomierz, remember times from eight centuries ago. With recent changes in this part of continent Poland's neighbors are: to the east and north-east - Russia, Lithuania, Belorussia and Ukraine; to the south - Czech and Slovakia, and Germany to the west.

Climate T he geographical location and surface features are the two most important factors determining the climate of Poland. Winters are sometimes mild and sometimes cold. The summers are cool and rainy or hot and dry. As a result of its geographical location in Europe, seasons generally enter Poland not from the south or north, but rather from the west (spring) and from the east (winter). Poland
The Republic of Poland– Rzeczpospolita Polska in Polish–lies in the very geographical center of Europe between, clockwise from the north, the Baltic Sea, Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany. Its area of 312,677 sq km (120,725 sq miles) and population of 38,3 million makes Poland a sizeable European nation on a par with Spain and the key one in Central-Eastern Europe. It also proves one of the world’s vibrant and open economies now. Poland joined NATO in 1999 and is the European Union's member since May 1, 2004.
    Visiting Poland
Poland ranks among the world’s ten most visited countries, with the bulk of visitors coming from the neighboring nations. Their numbers shot up in the early 1990s, from 18 million in 1990 to 70 million in 1994 including day trips for shopping or business, and remained on rise for years. Besides Krakow , Poland’s ancient capital, the country’s prime tourist attractions include beach resorts along the Baltic Sea, the vast Mazury lake district to the northeast of Warsaw, the Carpathian and Sudeten mountains, and many historic sites as well as national parks with unspoiled nature.
