Planets - General Comments
Planets are a long way away and an 8" telescope is small in comparison with large professional telescopes. Consequently the views I have of the planets through my home telescope can in no way compare with the published pictures taken through the Hubble Telescope.
The diagram below shows the relative sizes of the planets as viewed through my 8" LX200 telescope , compared to each other and to the telescope's field of view at x206. I was somewhat disappointed by my first telescope observation of Mars , but careful observations can nevertheless be very rewarding - the more you look, the more you see. The quality of the planetary views is dependant on a number of factors; views will be best when the planet is close to opposition (when planet lies closest to earth), and highest in the sky and when atmospheric seeing conditions are clearest and/or most steady.

The placement of the planets when we were born makes up our own unique personalities and characteristics. Each planet has an influence over us and effects the way we think, respond, react and behave. Not only does each planet play a role in our personality but as they continue to go through changes, we continue to go through our lives feeling their effects. The effects make up our daily, weekly, monthly and yearly horoscopes, while their placement at birth, determines our identities. The positions they were in during birth and the current positions combined, helps us understand certain feelings and reactions they would have on us. Since each planets position can have positive or negative influences over us, we hopefully have the control to utilize the positive effects and not the negative ones. Just how much of an effect each of these planets has over us on a day to day basis depends on our Natal Chart and our convictions.

G ENERAL S CHOLIUM.
The hypothesis of vortices is pressed with many difficulties. That every planet by a radius drawn to the sun may describe areas proportional to the times of description, the periodic times of the several parts of the vortices should observe the duplicate proportion of their distances from the sun; but that the periodic times of the planets may obtain the sesquiplicate proportion of their distance from the sun, the periodic times of the parts of the vortex ought to be in the sesquiplicate proportion of their distance. That the smaller vortices may maintain their lesser revolutions about Saturn Jupiter Bodies projected in our air suffer no resistance but from the air. Withdraw the air, as is done in Mr. Boyle's vacuum, and the resistance ceases; for in this void a bit of fine down and a piece of solid gold descend with equal velocity. And the parity of reason must take place in the celestial spaces above the earth's atmosphere; in which spaces, where there is no air to resist their motions, all bodies will move with the greatest freedom; and the planets and comets will constantly pursue their revolutions in orbits given in kind and position according to the laws above explained; but though these bodies may, indeed, persevere in their orbits by the mere laws of gravity, yet they could by no means have at first derived the regular position of the orbits themselves from those laws.

information Principal directions of research:
(1) development of theoretical and experimental models of light scattering in regolith-like media;
(2) analysis of optical and radar data on planetary surfaces obtained by earth-based telescopes and spacecrafts. Basic results obtained in the Department:
  • A new approach has been developed to study polarimetric properties of the Moon at large phase angles, which makes it possible to map the average regolith particle size for some regions of the nearside of the Moon. A theoretical model has been advanced for the negative polarization of the light scattered by atmosphereless celestial bodies at small phase angles; the model is based on the coherent enhancement of backscatter. Theoretical and computer models have been suggested for the shadow and interference components of the phase dependence of brightness of regolith-like surfaces; the models has been used for interpretation of the data obtained by Clementine. A theoretical model has been developed for spectral albedo of multicomponent regolith-like surfaces with different types of particle structure and composition; the model has been applied to the various celestial bodies (The Moon, Phobos, and asteroids).

New digital images of the lunar nearside albedos at 0.42, 0.65, 0.75, and 0.95 m ; provides two maps characterizing optical types of the lunar nearside. In particular, the maps show that the basalts of Mare Serenitatis and Mare Tranquillitatis are not widely extended on the lunar nearside. The maturity degree, parameter I s /FeO, was also mapped. Regions with I s /FeO 50 are young craters surrounded by ray systems, whereas the condition I s /FeO

General Info on the Planets
The planets (including the Sun and Moon) are the main"powerhouses" within an astrological chart. They describe basic energies or abilities of the human psyche that we experience both internally, as parts of our personalities, and in the world around us, as the events and stories of our everyday lives. Each planet represents a particular kind of energy, which we observe as different types of experiences in our lives (what psychologists call "archetypes"). These experiential profiles are described in astrology by keywords and phrases that capture various meanings, themes, mythological/archetypal motifs, personality traits, etc. that relate to the planet. By looking at the planet from these various viewpoints, a gut level feeling for the "personality" of that body eventually emerges. Soon, one simply notices when these energies are "active" in the world without having to think about it.
