Stefano Rondini
Visions
Stefano Rondini lives in Rome, and since 12 years he works in advertising photography, in parallel with the very professional part of his passion he carries out a peculiar artistic research moving through non conventional means of expression. Advertising's typical photographic style, aimed at glorifying the object is transposed and contextualized in a mystical set: common objects are absorbed in a reorganized and artefact world of glossy and paradoxically oneiric atmospheres. This series of works is a reassessment of some Italian renaissance masterpiece paintings: religious iconographies of the XIV and VX centuries such as S.Sebastian, S.George and the Dragon, the Last Supper, are reproduced through the use of every day life objects. The photographs offer a strong visual impact added with a stunning and effective emotional dynamic, based on new millennium fears and on the Christian Jubilee, celebrated in Rome and world-wide.

The First Camps
Concentration camps began as detention centers run by the SA and SS following the Nazi rise to power. At first, Communists, Jews, and Socialists were placed in these facilities. Although the Ministry of Justice declared these camps illegal and even punished some of its leaders, following the declaration of a state of emergency in 1933, there was little the Justice Officials could do. Beginning in 1933, 25,000 people were imprisoned in Dachau, one of the first of the death camps. Theodore Eicke became the head of Dachau in 1933 and inspector of all concentration camps in 1934. Under his leadership, prescribed duties and punishments for prisoners were created, and he formed an elite guard of the SS called the Totenkopfverband (Death's Head Units). Prisoners were separated into different groups such as Jews, political prisoners, criminals, homosexuals, and religious dissidents. Each was assigned a different color patch and symbol to wear on all clothing.
Between 1933 and 1938, about 95% of all concentration camp prisoners were German. From 1937 to 1938, the Nuremberg Laws and laws against Gypsies and Jehovah's Witnesses caused an increase in the number of prisoners, who provided German industries with forced, free labor. Following Kristallnacht, 35,000 Jews were placed in the camps until family members rescued them or they decided to emigrate elsewhere. Due to horrendous living and working conditions and murders by the SS guard, one-third of the Jews were killed.
