Unknown to the riding public, however, is a complex set of computer applications developed to implement the MetroCard project and operating 24 hours a day. These AFC back office systems automatically generate approximately 50 daily reports, along with special reports that can be requested by staff at any time. The reports provide critical information on daily operations, ranging from the number of MetroCards created during the previous 24 hours to revenue and ridership data downloaded from buses at each depot and turnstiles at each subway station. According to NYC Transit President Lawrence G. Reuter, "There are six million rides per day on the NYC Transit system, which translates to more than $8 million a day in fares requiring reconciliation and settlement. Applications driven by AFC back office systems meet this challenge each day, while also supporting MetroCard’s growing number of options for our customers." In addition, a suite of financial reports assures compliance with federal and state government reporting guidelines for transit systems. Many data interfaces have also been developed to transmit AFC information to analysts throughout NYC Transit, for tracking and review of such pertinent data as ridership trends.

Trinidad and Tobago Telescope Trinidad and Tobago Telescope Photographic History Port-of-Spain St. Joseph / Las Cuevas Chaguaramas / Gasparee Diego Martin 17th February 1797 , a British Fleet of eighteen ships, under the command of the Rear-Admiral Abercromby was taking Trinidad from the Spanish. The island’s geographic location made it imperative for the control and defence of British Caribbean. The story was that attempts were made to defend the island by Spanish Admiral Apodaca with a squadron of five ships. He anchored the vessels between the Fort on Gasparee Island and a mainland battery. These ships were then scuttled, the Admiral being ‘overwhelmed’ by the size of the British Fleet What remains unclear is the naval strategy employed in his choice of anchorage. The British sailed around, outside the reach of canon fire, and blockaded the harbour. Also, it is unclear whether he was sent to defend the colony, Spain knowing of the British plans well in advance or was he on his way to the viceroy in Venezuela with a treasure. Chacon, Spanish Governor of the Colony at the time, was frustrated by a recalcitrant French majority. Indeed, his trustworthiness with regard to the defence of the Island against the British had been questioned a year earlier. Also, rumours of the day suggested a secret meeting held between

Pinhole photography is an escape. An escape from the demands of the incredible technology of photographic equipment today. Within pinhole photography there is a simplicity in photography. This uncomplicated beauty is what attracted me to the art of photography in the first place. Now, I escape to this elementary place whenever I can. I run from my computer, scanner, Nikons and Hassleblads to this mysterious and enchanted world of the pinhole and photography. For me, it is a way of meditating, of centering myself and my love of imagery. The attractiveness of the pinhole camera's form and charm of approach lead undeniably towards an uncomplicated corroboration between camera and subject. The learned disciplines of the pinhole camera lead to a mysterious quality photograph. From light falloff to infinite depth of field and long exposures, the image's presence is almost eerie in its aberration from traditional photographic processes. The sacred beauty of these ancient places I have photographed can scarcely be translated, but perhaps their intrigue may be visually interpreted through the pinhole photography.
