Abstruse Pinhole Photography Portfolios Gallery Cameras ... Technique Inflatable Fun I first got interested in pinhole photography during the summer of 2001. I'm not sure exactly what drew my attention to this area of photography, but I'm now well and truly hooked. I bought a Lochkamera 6x9 pinhole camera kit from a retailer in the back of Amateur Photographer and started to take some photos. Since then I've downloaded plans for a 5x4" camera from the Internet and sent off for some pinholes for some 10x8" cameras. My eventual aim is to start making Cyanotypes with the negatives from the 10x8" cameras, but that's all in the future. I've just been made redundant from work, which is a shame as I've got 22 rolls of film that I took with the Lochkamera while on holiday in Turkey. 13 of those rolls are Ilford FP4+ and the rest a mixture of Fuji NPS and Agfa Optima colour print film. When I find a new job, I'm going to have the colour films processed at a lab and do the black and white ones in my own darkroom. I intend to have a feature portfolio of pinholes that changes every few months as I take more shots with my cameras. Being out of work means that the current portfolio might be here for some time, however, I'll keep updating the site as I build my other cameras for use.

Early History Pinhole images can be found in nature. Projected images of the bright disc of the sun can be seen on the ground under trees when three or more of its leaves happen to come together in such a way that they form a triangular or square "hole " (pinhole). Ancient Chinese, Greek and Arabic scientists noted that pinholes formed projected images and used the pinhole as a tool for their early researches into the nature of light. By the Renaissance, darkened rooms with an outside facing wall w ere fitted with a pinhole and projected the outdoor scene (upside down and backwards) onto the interior wall. Modern scientists use the pinhole's unique ability to make images of radiation sources that cannot be seen with the naked eye ( or lenses ) such as fusion reactor experiments or to take a picture made by gamma radiation emanating from a dying star.
