The goal of the Physical Education program is the development of a physically-educated person, one who has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities, is physically fit, participates regularly in physical activity, knows the benefits from involvement in physical activity, values physical activity and it's contributions to a healthy lifestyle. The 1999 Legislature approved Physical Education to be part of the Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM). The Oregon Department of Education is developing the Physical Education Content Standards to be implemented by the 2001-2002 school year. School districts shall develop and administer assessments for physical education to be implemented by the 2003-2004 school year. Physical Education Standards Content Standards Performance Standards Districts will determine local performance standards, record keeping systems, assessment instruments and processes of student assessment.
