general information about the collections and publications from NYC Arts.

Kurdish Library and Museum 144 Underhill Avenue (corner of Park Place)
Brooklyn, NY 11238
The Kurdish Library and the Kurdish Museum are located in a privately owned brownstone on the corner of Park Place and Underhill Avenue in Brooklyn. It is the only institution of its kind in the Western hemisphere. The Library operates under Charter granted by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. It contains over 2,000 volumes on Kurdish history, culture and contemporary affairs, many of which were smuggled out of the Middle East at great risk to those carrying them. Some rare books have even been dropped anonymously at the doorstep because the donors' fear for the safety of their families abroad should their names become public. Many of the books are written in Kurdish; the remainder in 15 other languages, among them English, French, German, Turkish, Arabic, Persian and Russian. The collection also contains periodicals, newspapers, reports and maps, as well as photographs, slides, videos and audio cassettes. There is also an ongoing oral history collection. The Museum, which operates under Provisional Charter, houses kilims and other weavings and artifacts from Turkey, Iraq and Iran as well as mannequins in traditional dress; men's hand loomed pantaloons, jackets and headgear; women's wildly colorful chiffon and brocade dresses, accessories and artifacts. A collection of village jewelry is on permanent display. The reading room is adorned with numerous photographs from a special traveling exhibition mounted in 1985 and shown in the United States and Canada since then.

Næstved Museum
Næstved Museum was established in 1917, since when it has collected material relics and knowledge from a working area which corresponds to present-day Næstved, Suså, Holmegård and Fladså municipalities in the northwestern part of Storstrøm County. Aage Bertelsen (1873-1945): Stella and Herman H.C. Kähler.
Oil on canvas, c.1910 The relics are from the last Ice Age up to the present day.
Næstved Museum is now a government recognised, culture-historical museum, thereby sharing the Keeper of National Antiquities' responsibility for Denmark's archaeological heritage. We also work with more recent history.
Lastly, the museum has its own speciality - art craft, with local glass and ceramics businesses as its point of departure.

Satellite Collections
General Information
List of satellite collections

What distinguishes a satellite collection from other non-legacy material in the Archive?
Several factors in combination or, in some cases, individually determine when material is acquired as part of the satellite collections.
Provenence: The importance of an item or a group of items may stem, in part, from the agency which collected and/or provided the material. That is, the value of the group of material is greater than the sum of the individual parts. Another important aspect of provenence is that of verification. It often helps to establish the authenticity of an item if the history of ownership of the physical item is known.
Rarity: The fact that an item may be unique or exist in very few copies contributes to its importance and value thus making it valuable to deal with the item on its own terms rather than attempting to mainstream it into other more common materials.
Strangeness: The uncommon nature of an item often means it is more easily dealt with on its own terms rather than trying to integrate it amongst dissimilar materials.

Nevada Women's Archives
As part of the Special Collections of UNLV Libraries, the Nevada Women's Archives project began in September 1994 to collect, preserve, and provide access to primary source materials which document women's history in Southern Nevada. Materials resulting from women's activities in political, social, cultural, religious, commercial and economic life are the focus of the collection. The Archives collection includes legal papers, business and personal correspondence, family memorabilia, and family photo albums. Once collections are processed and cataloged, information is accessible through the library's catalog and through the World Wide Web to researchers not only in the community but also internationally.
