International Client Meeting
Vienna 21-23 April, 2004
General Information
Vienna, in the heart of Europe, is an exciting combination of the royal-imperial flair of the past, responsible cultivation of precious heritage and charming traditions as well as modern lifestyle and the latest trends of a European metropolis. Magnificent buildings date back to the era of the Habsburg architecture while Historicism and Art Nouveau as well as modern style influence the townscape. Vienna's charm does not, however, lie solely with its architecture. It has a centuries old musical tradition, numerous theatres, world renowned museums and fine art collections. All of these make Vienna one of the leading cultural centres of the world. Find out more at http://info.wien.at
Conference Location
The conference will take place at the Hofburg Palace, the former Royal Palace, located in the heart of Vienna. The entrance is at Hofburg Congress Center - Heldenplatz. The Hofburg Palace was built between the 13th and 20th centuries and until 1918 it was the residency of the Habsburg Dynasty. During that time nearly every Regent either restored, expanded or redesigned the palace whose wings portray the architectural periods of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque up to Classicism. It is a few minutes walk from the Meridien and Bristol hotels. A bus transfer is provided from the Imperial and Intercontinental hotels. Find out more about the Hofburg Palace at

PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTIONS
OVERVIEW The Special Collections unit houses more than 10,000 images in a variety of formats documenting the history and development of Lakeland from the turn of the century to the present. Included are four series of aerial photographs taken in 1925, 1955, 1969, and 1975. Viewed in sequence, they allow the researcher to see how and in what directions Lakeland has grown over a 50 year period.
The largest and most significant of our collections is the Dan Sanborn Photograph Collection, P720/721. Sanborn was a long time commercial and newspaper photographer who, in 1991, donated to the Lakeland public Library more than 6000 negatives of photographs he had taken of Lakeland from the 1930's to the 1960's. More than 800 prints have been made from the negatives that we believe to be most representative of the collection. The 800 prints have also been scanned as 400 dpi tif. files and are housed on a server in Special Collections.
Other major photo collections include the Albert Lodwick Photograph Collection, P700, the Hap Harper Photograph Collection, P800, the Earl Morgan Savage Photograph Collecton, P1000, and the Lakeland Police Department Photograph Collection, P2000 (from which the photo above was taken). The Lodwick Collection documents in photographs Albert Lodwick's lengthy career in the aviation industry and his personal and professional relationship with Howard Hughes. It also complements the Alfred Lodwick Papers, RG2700, housed with our manuscript collections.
