121. Libwww-perl
Modules to provide a simple and consistent programming interface to the WWW.
http://www.linpro.no/lwp/
The libwww-perl collection is a set of Perl modules which provides a simple and consistent application programming interface to the World-Wide Web. The main focus of the library is to provide classes and functions that allow you to write WWW clients. The library also contain modules that are of more general use and even classes that help you implement simple HTTP servers. The latest version of the library is libwww-perl-5.64.tar.gz (179 KB) which was released Feb 9, 2002. You will need perl version 5.005 or better to use this version. You can look at the individual files of the latest distribution directly, which includes the Changes file that should tell you if an upgrade is worthwhile. For perl version 5.004 you should continue to use libwww-perl-5.53.tar.gz (153 KB) which was released Apr 10, 2001. This version does not provide HTTP/1.1 support. The latest libwww-perl package as well as perl itself are also available on CPAN (Comprehensive Perl Archive Network). This is also the place to obtain the other packes that libwww-perl depend upon ( URI HTML::Parser MIME::Base64 Digest::MD5 , and Net::FTP from libnet ) as well as other modules that I wrote From SourceForge you can also obtain the source directly from CVS and also browse the CVS repository directly. SourceForge also host the

Matt's Perl Pages
PerlScript
PerlScript is the implementation of perl in Microsoft Active Server Pages (or ASP). It is much like CGI, with the benefit of a very complete and flexible object model for designing interactive web applications. The following texts and modules all assume you are using at least ActivePerl build 502.
The Articles
The FAQ
There is another FAQ on PerlScript out there, but this is mine and I try to keep it fairly up to date (recently PerlScript has been a bit of a moving target).
The Module
This is my module for PerlScript programming. It is mentioned in most of the above texts, you can either download it from CPAN if you have nmake on your system, or install it via ppm. The version on CPAN will always be the latest version.
Win32::ASP::CGI
If you want to use ordinary CGI.pm scripts in ASP, have a look at this module by Lennart Borgman . It enables the use of CGI.pm from within PerlScript ASP's. Please contact Lennart for help on this - I'm just hosting it for him.
Databases
Most of my perl work involves databases. Originally I used Win32::ODBC by Dave Roth (http://www.roth.net), but I've moved onto using ADO since then.

124. The Pit - Forums And Tutorials For All Your Internet And Programming Needs
Forums to help anyone with HTML, DHTML, ASP, perl, PHP, XML, VB, Flash, and just about any other type of internet programming language.
http://www.the-pit.net/
This is the pit. A place where people from all walks of life throughout the Globe deposit what they know so that maybe one day other people may use this knowlege for themselves.
Because you can add you own articles and tutorials to the pit it truly is bottomless. There is no limit on what you can type and how much of it goes in, which is just what was wanted ;).
In my opinion the best way to learn something is to do it. This is easy enough, but with an online community behind you, you have the chance to interact with people who both know and are learning.
There is also a great online community here. A community that boasts both sensibilty and maddness, both maturity and unmat....inmat..imm / non-maturity. Where else can you grab the wombat by it's imaginary horns and open your mind.
But the most important feature about here is, you can have a laugh.
This site is Currently being developed, the BB however should be fully functional.
The latest site developments will be briefly mentioned in this area. You will be able to follow the link through to see the site status and development.
Also any major announcements will go in this section, we just have none as such.

133. Matt's Perl Page
Author of the CGI programming in perl chapter for 'Unix Unleashed, Internet Edition'. Includes CGI scripts that he has written.
http://www.interhack.net/people/cmcurtin/perl/
Welcome to my Perl page. Here are some goodies related to the Perl programming language.
I wrote the CGI Programming in Perl chapter and some other CGI-related stuff for Unix Unleashed, Internet Edition , published by SAMS. (Please don't hold that against me.) Given that the amount of time most authors have to produce technical books these days is about a third of what it ought to be, errors tend to find their way to print. If you find any errors in anything with my name attached to it, please let me know so I can make note of corrections here.
Perl is a wonderfully powerful language that is particularly well suited to writing tools for the Internet. Its portability, flexibility, speed, and powerful text processing capabilities make it ideal for many tasks which are very difficult to do in other languages. I hear you already... ``Didn't you write an essay about how great and wonderful Java is?'' In fact, yes I did. Java and Perl are two different programming languages, with very different views of the world. The result is that some problems are better solved in Java, while others are better solved in Perl. Use the right tool for the job. (And, truth be told, the point of my essay was more about the importance of a single, unified Java Virtual Machine (JVM) than about the Java programming language. I'm rather looking forward to having my Perl programs run on any platform where the JVM can be found, without modification, without recompilation, and without a headache.)
