King of the Sandbox

Do you have a Perl program idea?
Tell me about it and maybe I'll write it! I'm looking for brilliant ideas to use as creative seeds for new programs that are fun and challenging to write (and exciting to use, hopefully). Please be fairly specific about any requirements you might have. In particular, tell me what kind of server you use, what kind of inputs and interactions the program should perform, and what the output should look like. Email me and we can talk: Want to link to a page?
Use the first part of the URL, up to (but not including) . The remainder of the URL is ephemeral and will often change as pages are updated. Were you looking for a program called "advertise?"
Its horizons broadened and it's now calling itself "Insert Tab Into Slot."

PLEAC - Programming Language Examples Alike Cookbook
Overall
Following the great Perl Cookbook If successful, this project may become a primary resource for quick, handy and free reference to solve most common programming problems using higher-level programming languages, and for comparison on ease-of-use and power/efficiency of these languages. The material, considered as some Documentation, is wholy released under the Gnu Free Documentation License freely available Please subscribe to the discussion mailing-list if interested in the project. The FAQ is here . You may also see who talked about Pleac.

Perl is an interpreted programming language known for its power and flexibility. It combines the familiar syntax of C, C++, sed, awk, grep, sh, and csh into a tool that that is more powerful than the separate pieces used together. These pages will teach basic data structures, flow control, and string manipulation in the context of writing a common CGI program for a Web server.
Prerequisites
  • Basic programming experience (fortran, c, basic, whatever)
  • No Perl, awk, sed, sh, csh, or grep is necessary, although it's useful.
This tutorial is necessarily a simplified version of what perl can do. If you know perl, you could find "errors" in many of my statements, but on the other hand, if you know perl, you understand why I'm leaving out the subtleties. Also, I'm leaving out any of the great things about perl 5.

Perl , also Practical Extraction and Report Language (a backronym , see below ), is a programming language released by Larry Wall on December 18 that borrows features from C sed awk shell scripting ( sh ), and (to a lesser extent) from many other programming languages as well. Table of contents 1 Rationale 2 Implementation 3 Current Version 4 Control structures ... edit
    Rationale
Perl was designed to be a practical language to extract information from text files and to generate reports from that information. One of its mottos is "There's more than one way to do it" (TMTOWTDI - pronounced 'Tim Toady'). Another is Perl: the Swiss Army Chainsaw of Programming Languages . One stated design goal is to make easy tasks easy and difficult tasks possible. Its versatility permits versions of many programming paradigms: procedural functional , and object-oriented (though some claim that Perl is not a cleanly designed language because of its multiple paradigms). Perl has a powerful regular expression engine built directly into its syntax. Perl is often considered the archetypal
