Eagle Scout projects have a long standing history of helping the National Park Service complete maintenance and natural resource projects throughout the park system. Eagle Scout projects here at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts are no exception. Timothy Goodsell, for his Eagle Scout project, organized a tree planting in two areas of the park. He did an excellent job organizing this event. These trees will help stabilize the soil along Wolf Trap Run and replace trees that were cut down by local beaver. On March 27th over 50 volunteers came out to the park and planted over 100 saplings. Younger volunteers also helped clean up trash and debris along the creek. Seven types of trees were planted: sycamore, hackberry, button bush, cypress, river birch, red bud and willow. Most of the trees were donated by the Virginia Department of Forestry. Thanks to Timothy, the Goodsells, and all who participated in this tree planting. It just took one Saturday morning, but this tree planting made such a difference.

Performing Arts Research Coalition (PARC) Data Sets Now Available
Press contact: Larry McGill, Director of Research and Planning
Released April 2, 2003 The first in-depth look at performing arts attendance at the local level in ten years, the Performing Arts Research Coalition (PARC) project has just released the data sets from the first five communities studied in its three-year project to measure the level of participation in and support for the arts in 10 communities across the country. Data are now available for Alaska (urban locations), Cincinnati, Denver, Pittsburgh, and Seattle. Interviews were conducted with respondents from 800 randomly selected households in each community, on issues of critical importance to the performing arts:
    • How many people attend performing arts events and who are they?
    • How do attendees differ from non-attendees?
    • What prevents people from attending performing arts events more often?
