CENTRAL OFFICE BULLETIN February 22, 2002 Vol. 5, No. 6 Superintendent's Message As our second semester is now a month underway, a mid-winter look at a few of the areas we discussed at the end of August in our opening day get-together is appropriate. The cheese continues to move...
  • Standards in science, technology, and the environment have finally been approved. The remaining areas are expected to move toward approval within the coming year. Our faculty, coordinators, and administrators continue to work on aligning our curriculum and refining our local assessments.
Following our district professional development day in January, it is evident that progress is being made and work is continuing at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels on initiatives to maintain and to enhance a "safe, secure, nurturing environment" for all.
The draft of the Districtwide Master Plan has been presented for discussion and review by the Board of School Directors. Opportunities for input from staff, parents, community members, community groups, and governmental bodies will take place during the coming months. Copies of the draft are available in each school library, the Central Office, and Schlow.

The granddaddy of Pioneer Partnerships
For 40 years, the talking book repair program has brought the joy of the printed word to
those who cannot see. In cooperation with the Library of Congress and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and under the guidance of the Talking Book coordinators, Pioneers are
responsible for refurbishing the special cassette and record-player machines that deliver books, newspapers magazines and other reading materials via the spoken word for more than 800,000 blind, visually or physically impaired users.
Pioneers help repair upwards of 135,000 machines a year and have processed over 2 million
to date a contribution valued at over $4 million annually and in excess of $70 million overall. Recently recognized in the U. S. with a congressional proclamation, the program marked 30 years of service in Canada in 2001. There is much to be done in continuing our support of this invaluable free program, and we invite you to be a part of it! (PS: It only sounds technical!)

Chronicles of an
Anthropophobic Freshman What happens when one is thrown into four years at a small-town public high school brimming with illiterate rednecks and told to write about it. My blog is my journal, complete with day-to-day trivialities and the occasional analysis of my life as I proceed to take it too seriously. Kick back and stay awhile.

State, state, state.
Leaving tomorrow after 1st hour, for Columbia, go-carting and Osage Beach and all the rest, spend the night, perform at 9:38 am, come home, eeee I am nervous.
*please don't let us mess up terribly*
Though I'm saying that we'll be rated... IV, being pessimistic, III if we're lucky, II would be insane.
(We don't meet the time limit, automatic one-grade deduction.)
I shall post pictures and such on Saturday.
Eee!
