The Yellow Nape is popular but like all parrot species it is the plain jane of the Amazons and tends to be the nippiest in the Amazon family. Amazons as they sexually mature they tend to change and some turn nippy. The Blue Fronted Amazon has made its way up on the top of the list of Amazons. They talk pretty good and much better talkers than the Pionus. Did you know the Amazon and the Pionus are cousins? Yes that's right, they are! Get the facts straight - Amazons are noisy! They are not considered apartment birds. The neighbors will definitely know that you have a parrot. Don't get me wrong Amazons are great parrots but just know they are very vocalizing type birds. Amazons are pretty good talkers too, they are very clownish as well, they are a very entertaining bird, they will make you laugh. The Orange Winged Amazon what was once readily available many years ago are slowly disappearing in the U.S. aviculture along with other parrot species. You can read an article in December 2002 issue of Bird Talk Magazine, page 74. To name a few others Amazon species that are available in the pet trade is the Lilac Crown, Red Lored, Mealy, White Fronted, Red Spectacled, Yellow Headed, Tucuman, Panama. There are 31 Amazon species all together and most are not available and many are rare.
