A series of events are organized by MAP Canada in order to increase the Canadian public's awareness and understanding of the rich but not very well known Palestinian culture, as well as counteract the negative image of Palestinians in Canada who are often victims of misunderstanding and stereotyping. Palestinian artists are invited to perform or exhibit their work in various fields of cultural expression including visual arts, cinema, theater, poetry and music.

Rhythms from Palestine
It is with great pleasure that MAP presents, for the third consecutive year, Rhythms from Palestine , which will be held in Montreal on November 9th to December 15th, 2002. Throughout this project, MAP hopes to present a different aspect of the Palestinian reality, one that is revealed in various forms of artistic expression of superior quality. Here are the schedules of the activities which will take place during Rhythms from Palestine

Today, it is possible to share many forms of art through the global Internet music, paintings and drawings, photographs, video, dance, poetry and books. Anyone with an inexpensive computer, microphone, scanner and camera can create beautiful, original products, put them on a website, and instantly offer them for sale to an audience of more than 150 million people worldwide. Greenstar is working to take advantage of this capability in a radically new way: to help jumpstart business in small communities in the developing world. We're supplying the basic technology self-contained solar power, wireless communications and computers to "off-the-grid" villages. We then help the people to create and promote a website and configure it for ecommerce payments and seed a digital culture business. These communities, which currently have no electricity or phone service, can now join the global economy by offering something truly unique and original of themselves. They can develop a relationship with people in the developed world with whom they would normally never be in touch or people right around the corner, whom they would not normally meet. Greenstar's goal is to provide village people with an environmentally-sound way to achieve economic independence, to preserve and advance their traditional cultures, and to promote international peace and understanding. Through the Internet, we have the chance to express, for the first time, a truly global human purpose and to make this expression economically viable, with a built-in path to stability and growth.

CULTURAL DE-ESCALATION PLAN FOR ISRAEL AND PALESTINE ©Marc Gopin PREAMBLE There will be no success to a strategic political plan at this point in time, no matter how rational it may be, unless there is a parallel effort to de-escalate the rage and fear that is propelling rejectionism and hardened positions in this conflict. One can speculate endlessly and argue about which side deserves greater blame for the current sequence of tragic events. A constructive approach, however, is to initiate strategically a bilateral set of actions affecting the general population that would allow the leadership on each side to achieve the necessary political space and communal consensus to move back to negotiations and toward a final settlement. 1. HOLY PLACES Gestures of regret, honor and re-dedication should be made in every religious space that has been violated in Israel and Palestine in the last month. This includes the Dome of the Rock, Joseph’s Tomb, in addition to various synagogues, mosques, and gravesites. These gestures should be bilateral, organized by a variety of existing interfaith organizations, but endorsed publicly by leading political figures on both sides, in addition to religious leaders on both sides. Third parties, such as the United States, need to make clear to both sides that this is a priority. 2. LOSS OF HUMAN LIFE

About BZU Community Groups Admission ... National Conservatory of Music The National Conservatory of Music is an affiliate of Birzeit University, and was established in 1993 to provide students interested in pursuing careers in music, an academic musical education that includes both theory and practice. Since its establishment, the Conservatory worked hard to build a musical institution of professional standards that as such has changed the musical life in Palestine dramatically. Currently over 400 students are enrolled at the Conservatory, which has three branches in the West Bank and plans to develop two additional branches, one in the Gaza Strip. Upon completion of the eight-year academic program, which includes training in a classical or an Arab instrument, theory, ear training, history and appreciation of Arab and foreign music, and after passing the compulsory exams, graduates are qualified to apply to any university or academy of music of their choice. The Conservatory intends to establish a university level program that will further train graduates to become professional musicians. The Conservatory has a Scholarship program to provide assistance to talented students that are financially disadvantaged and has established the Marcel Khalife Scholarship Fund with a gift given by the renowned Lebanese musician to the Conservatory.
