Pakistan possesses rich, vibrant cultural heritage: Secy Culture
By Uzma Zafar
ISLAMABAD—"Pakistan possesses rich, vibrant cultural heritage. However, we need a policy for the protection of our archeological sites which is not a one-man policy but a joint effort directed towards projecting a positive image of the cultural monuments here and abroad and also committed to promote and maintain them at a certain level. Keeping this objective in mind, National Policy Seminar on Culture, Cultural Heritage and Cultural Tourism is being held from 9th-11Dec, to discussion and putting forth the recommendations of Ministry of Culture, PNCA and UNESCO to the government", briefed Khalid Latif; Secretary Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs while addressing a presser held as a prelude to the National Policy Seminar on Culture, Cultural Heritage and Cultural Tourism to be opened today, at National Library, here on Monday.
The press conference not only served as a briefing for the seminar but the Project Report of Cultural Tourism with reference to preservation of Cultural Heritage in Lahore and Peshawar was presented and the opening of painting exhibition entitled; 'Land and Cultural Heritage of Pakistan' were also held at the occasion. About the exhibition the Secretary said that it comprised of a range of cultural heritable items. Talking about the seminar he said that it would create an understanding for the development of cultural resources. About financial constraints he said, "Norweigian and Japanese countries along many others have shown interest in investment and building a public-private partnership. Rohtas Fort is being guided day and night by an NGO while the gate money for upkeeping of monuments is being considered", he said.

Department of Asian and African Languages At the Department of Asian and African Languages old traditions of education and research in Oriental languages at Uppsala University are treasured. As one of the first chairs in the University, for example, the professorship of Semitic Languages dates back to the beginning of the sixteenth century. Many other Oriental languages have also been taught for centuries but a remarkable renewal of the aims and methods of their study has taken place, especially during the last few decades.
