I have a chipped tooth and I've had bonding but it keeps coming off. Someone told me that if you leave it alone eventually it will come down to meet the other tooth. Is this true and if so how long does it take? ...Visitor from Pennsylvania (answer)
Four of my front teeth are very badly chipped, two are signifigantly worse than the other two. The two that are not so bad do not have to much damage and a large portion of both are still intact.. I went to a cosmetic dentist to find out my options, and he only gave me one. To completely remove all of them and replace them with a bridge, but before that he said he would have to give me a root canal on two of my back molars, they were damaged, I guess. He said that he had to do the root canals first before he would do anything. I am going to be paying cash when I decide what I want to do, and I know this will be extremely costly. What I am wondering is is this really my only option? The thought of having to lose my front teeth at 24 is horrible. ...Visitor from Ohio

Answers to Commonly-Asked Questions Food Sports Mouthguards Decay/Decalcification Musical Instruments Soreness Other Hot and Cold Emergencies Food
The appliance or bands you are wearing are not indestructible. We ask that you avoid chewy, sticky, or hard foods-Please use common sense. The list of "foods to avoid" include:
  • Sticky, chewy candies (i.e. caramels, licorice, gum, taffy,) Hard breads (i.e. hard rolls and toast, pizza crust), hard candy, and ice Chip snacks including Fritos, Doritos, hard pretzels
Decay/Decalcification
Your teeth may decay underneath orthodontic bands if the bands are loose. At each appointment we make certain that your bands are tight. However, if you notice a loose band or bracket, call us as soon as possible so that we can set up a repair appointment. A more frequent problem, but one that you can easily prevent, is decalcification or staining of the teeth. This may occur on areas of a tooth adjacent to the band if you do not brush your teeth thoroughly after each meal. Braces DO NOT cause decay/calcification - not maintaining good oral hygiene does. Preventing this problem is simple - it's up to you.

WHAT ARE THE DENTAL DEVICES USED TO TREAT SLEEP APNEA?
Several different dental appliances or treatments are available and are proving to be very valuable treatments for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. Dentists and orthodontists are slowly becoming more aware of obstructive sleep apnea, and may become more involved with its diagnosis and treatment.
Types of Dental or Orthodontic Treatments
  • One common device is a splint that holds the tongue in a specific position to keep the airway as open as possible.
  • Some dental devices are similar in appearance to sports mouth guards. The mandibular advancement device (MAD) forces the lower jaw forward, which keeps the airway open.
Benefits of Dental Devices
Studies generally indicate satisfaction with the dental devices, although it is not known if they have any significant health benefits. Studies have indicated that MAD has the following benefits:
  • It reduces apneas significantly for those with mild to moderate apnea, particularly if patients sleep on their backs.
  • It may improve airflow, although less well, in those with severe apnea.

Gallery Monsters
Could This Be Someone You Know?
In any population, there are always a few "monsters" and gallery visitors are no exception. Now, I won't talk about the obvious because sane parents don't drag toddlers into a venue so boring (to them) as an art gallery. Sensible mothers quickly wheel a crying baby off to be fed or changed. And only once have I seen someone contemplate bringing her large and boisterous dog into the gallery. To my relief, she thought better of it and left him outside.
Instead, I'll tell you some true stories from my experience as a gallery owner, and let you draw your own conclusions.
The first incident happened just on closing time one evening. As I cleared my desk, a chap walked in and began inspecting all the paintings, making noises of approval over each of them. Until he came to a newly completed piece called "The Indian Hawker."
This painting grew out of a mention my father had made about the itinerant traders who had travelled the Outback until the 1930s, with their wares in a horse-drawn cart. I was startled when the visitor turned to me with a look of disgust and loudly remarked, "This is really offensive. I wouldn't have this in my house."

by Jane Christmas Several years ago, I met a women she was in her early 60s at the time who admitted to blaring Twisted Sister on the stereo whenever she did the ironing. She said the song's anthem-like chorus We're not gonna take it gave her an outlet for suppressed rebellion as she pressed every wrinkle and crease into submission. Today, middle-aged mamas are discovering that nothing settles the nerves or handles the stress better than a hit or two of Eminem. Judging by the lyrical content of the white rapper's latest CD, it will be just what the doctor ordered, minus the side effects. Forget Mother's Little Helper , and forget Hamburger Helper, too. Crank up the system, and rap out your frustrations. The latest dirty little secret on the domestic front takes place after the kids head off to school in the morning: Mom pushes aside her Shania Twain CD, rifles her teen's collection for Eminem, throws it on the family boom box and lets the beat take over. On the road, the van idling beside you with music pulsating behind tightly closed windows is more likely being driven by a fortysomething mom than by a tattooed bruiser wearing gang colours. So what's going on?

WHAT ARE THE DENTAL DEVICES USED TO TREAT SLEEP APNEA?
Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) and Other Dental Products for Sleep Apnea
Several different dental appliances or treatments are available and are proving to be very valuable treatments for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. Dentists and orthodontists are slowly becoming more aware of obstructive sleep apnea and may become more involved with its diagnosis and treatment. Among the devices available are the following examples:
  • The mandibular advancement device (MAD) is the most widely used dental device for sleep apnea. It is similar in appearance to a sports mouth guard. MAD forces the lower jaw forward and down slightly, which keeps the airway open.
Splints (e.g., Sleep Splint) are sometimes used that hold the tongue in a specific position to keep the airway as open as possible.
The functional magnetic system uses it two magnets positioned on opposite sides of the jaw to keep the airway open.
Patients fitted with one of these devices should have a check-up early on to see if it is working; short-term success usually predicts long-term benefits. It may need to be adjusted or replaced periodically.

51. The Glass Ceiling Family Section -  Benefits Of Breastfeeding
This means that there is less likelihood of misaligned teeth in a breastfed baby, which also means fewer orthodontal bills later in life. 10.
http://www.theglassceiling.com/supermoms2/su_benefi.htm
Benefits of Breastfeeding
Benefits for Baby
The first liquid produced by your breast, colostrum, is your baby's first immunization "shot." Your baby will have received some of your antibodies before birth, but colostrum is full of them, pumping up baby's immunity against such things as staphlococci, E. coli and polio. Colostrum helps to establish intestinal flora which in turn begin producing vitamin K - the blood clotting vitamin which is now, since the widespread use of formula, "routinely" administered to all newborns by injection. Colostrum also acts as a mild laxative to clear baby's system of built-up waste and to help prevent jaundice. The milk your breast produces after a few days is specifically designed for a newborn human. The fat content, protein type and level, and the balance of vitamins and minerals is exactly geared for your baby. This milk is therefore easier for baby to digest, and baby is able to absorb nutrients from breast milk more completely. This is why breastfeeding protects against iron deficiency for example, for at least six months in spite of the iron levels in breast milk being 20 times less than the level found in formula. The iron in breast milk is more easily available to the baby and is almost all absorbed, whereas very little of the iron in enriched formulas is able to be absorbed by baby.

http://www.wsu.edu/~delahoyd/rudolph.html
RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER Background
Robert L. May (1905-1976), a copywriter for Montgomery Ward in Chicago, created Rudolph in 1939 as a poem, adding the character to the list of Santa's reindeer given in Clement C. Moore's famous "A Visit from St. Nicholas." The store had traditionally had a coloring book give-away at the holiday season and wanted to save money by offering their own production. May rejected the names Rollo and Reginald for the reindeer, and the store initially had some reservations about the red nose implications, but the character became popular and spawned a 9-minute cartoon in 1948. The song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was written in 1949 by Johnny Marks, brother-in-law of May, and recorded by Gene Autry the following year. Since then, everybody and their jingle dogs have recorded the song. The claymation Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer appeared in 1964. When Reagan deregulated advertising, the elf song was typically cut when this aired on network television for many years. Notes : Videocraft International Productions.

“My God! They’re getting closer. They see me! They’re shooting at me. I must hide. The streets are full of potholes, the buildings gutted shells, and the vegetation is burning. There’s no place to hide. They’ve sent the bombers and are bombing the whole countryside. All I can hear are explosions and screams; I feel sick. They’ve killed off all the women and children, and now they will kill me. The Nazis will burn up the whole world, and no one will be able to resist them. How can this be happening? Everything is in flames, and I’m all alone in the midst of them. I want to survive. Help me, someone! Please, HELP!
What’s that bright streak in the sky? Oh, it’s a shooting star. I’ve seen it before somewhere. I wish it would lift me up and away from here. OH MY GOD! The bombers are right above my head. They’ve dropped a bomb – it’s coming right at me! I’m dead. HELP ME!” “Gloria, wake up. It’s only a dream. You’re safe now.” Dan gently shook her arm as she awoke.
