Short information on the German Ornithologist's Society (DO-G): The German Ornithologists' Society is one of the world's oldest existing scientific societies.
The DO-G was founded in 1850. Its original goal - to support and further scientific ornithology on all levels - has remained unchanged. The DO-G attempts to accomplish its aims by
  • publishing the Journal of Ornithology (founded in 1853) and by supporting the publication of Die Vogelwarte (formerly Der Vogelzug , founded in 1930); both publish contributions from all areas of scientific ornithology in German and English;
  • helping to establish and further personal between ornithologists on an international level. This particularly mediated during the annual meetings which offer ample opportunities for discussion and include organized field trips. The annual meetings are held in an ever changing sequence of central European cities (preferably university cities) ;
  • offering scientific as well as financial support for scientific studies through a special research fund;

    Student Services
    Faculty Union According to the amended University Act of 1988, Section 26, students of each faculty can form a Faculty Union comprised of all students of that faculty. The main objective of this Union is to promote academic actions, to safeguard the rights of the student population, to work for the advancement and welfare of the students and the faculty.
    Student Societies
    In addition to the Faculty Union, there are other registered societies which are affiliated to different departments.
    Ruhuna University Botanical Society
    This was established in 1980 and its contribution to the University is considerable. The society has launched a programme to set up its branches in schools of Matara District with the view to popularizing nature conservation. The tree-planting campaigns were organized by the society.
    The Physics Society
    The main aim of the Physics Society is to educate the members with the modern knowledge of physics and to work for the advancement of the mankind. Seminars are held frequently to educate the members about the current research and findings in the areas related to the field of physics. Also, the students of the society arrange special courses to share their knowledge with others. A magazine, named ``The Horizon'', is also published by the Physics Society.
    The Zoological Society
    The Zoological Society was established in 1992 with the aim of enlightening the members, of threatened wild life and current affairs related to the field. Any of the registered student of the University of Ruhuna can be a member of this society.

    the correct score will win limited edition ‘LSU ornithology’ caps. by small grantsfrom government agencies, private foundations, and scientific societies.
    http://www.museum.lsu.edu/~Witt/birdathon_info.html
    Announcing the 18 th Annual LSU Ornithology Birdathon! We ask for your support of the LSU Ornithology Birdathon for the year 2004. This event supports bird research by graduate students at the LSU Museum of Natural Science. This April, the ornithology graduate students at the LSU Museum will choose one day to attempt the ultimate birdwatching challenge — to find as many species as possible in a 24-hour period within the state of Louisiana. We ask you to make a pledge for each species of bird that we are able to find during that single day! Click here for a printable pledge form In 2003, the ornithology graduate students set a new Louisiana record for the number of species in a single 24-hour period with 211! For the second time in three years, the graduate students demolished the long-standing mark of 202 species that had been set by museum curators and staff in 1987. Click here to see the results of our 2003 Birdathon With our new midnight to midnight route, summarized here as "Baton Rouge-Breaux Bridge-Kisatchie-Starks-Vinton-Creole-Cameron", we think that 220 species is not out of the realm of possibility (we’re not afraid to reveal our route because we don’t think anyone else is crazy enough to try it!). To achieve this mark will require weather conditions that are sufficiently adverse to convince trans-Gulf migrant birds to stop on the immediate coast. We invite you to predict our final species total on your Birdathon pledge card! Everyone who guesses the correct score will win limited edition ‘LSU Ornithology’ caps.

    Estimates are that, of the approximately three+ billion web pages currently available on the web, the life span of many of them is less than a year. What happens to them? The content may significantly or completely change. The pages may be moved elsewhere. Some of them will simply disappear completely. So it is not useful to maintain long lists of links, especially given the current sophistication of search engines. Listed below are a number of links to bird- and ornithology-related sites that will probably be around for awhile. Although there has been no attempt to include commercial sites in this list, some of the sites below do sell products but are included here because they contain useful information or lists of links. If you can't find what you need here, then try a search engine like google.com
