Global SchoolNet
The Global SchoolNet Foundation organizes, manages, and facilitates projects for schools. Their HILITES archives and mailing list keeps educators up-to-date on project ideas. The project registry allows schools to register upcoming events in which others might want to participate. Projects range from videoconferencing to e-mail only. If you want to participate with CUSeeMe schools, there is a whole section devoted to those who have the CUSeeMe software. Global SchoolHouse The Global SchoolNet is part of the Global SchoolNet Organization. It is designed to build an online community. I*EARN (International Education and Resource Network) This nonprofit organization creates structured projects that facilitate engaged learning and youth making a difference on an International scale. Project areas include interdisciplinary topics such as the environment/science, art/literature, and social studies/politics. Some examples of past projects are the Holocaust/Genocide, the Building Wells for Clean Water in Nicaragua, and the Planetary Notions, an environmental newsletter.

Scientists from the USGS BRD participate on the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Working Group with members of the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida Indians and the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Research to be undertaken is identified by the Working Group with input from the Tribal representatives. The Working Group is more collaborative than some because of the active participation by the two Tribes. In consultation with the Working Group, BRD scientists focus on landscape ecology, wetland ecology, fire ecology, ornithology and ichthyology, coral reef ecology, and long-term monitoring. USGS also had developed a set of computer landscape models to support decisionmaking models. These models include population models of the Florida panther, Cape Sable seaside sparrow, Florida snail kite, American alligator, American crocodile, wood stork, great blue heron, white ibis, and great egret. mmurray@usgs.gov

Ornithology The Department of Ornithology is the centre for Ornithological research in Kenya. The Department’s activities fall into three main areas: curation, research and training. Curation. The Department takes care of the regional reference collection of study skins (and other specimens such as nests and eggs). Some of the 35,000 or so skins date from the last century but they are still in good condition! Looking after the skins and making sure that they are properly catalogued is a major task. The collection is used extensively by scientists interested in bird taxonomy and distribution, and also by artists and birdwatchers. Research. The Department focuses on research and monitoring related to bird conservation. The monitoring programme is an area where birders can become actively involved (see below). Our research focuses particularly on threatened species, the effects of habitat fragmentation and land-use changes (for example, in the Taita Hills forests and Kinangop Plateau grasslands), and sustainable use of birds (for instance, through gamebird shooting). The Department’s varied monitoring work includes: The Nest Record Scheme of East Africa
The African Waterbird Census

I. Executive Summary
At the request of Daryl B. Lund, Dean of the New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), the teaching, research and outreach programs of that college and related units of Cornell University were reviewed from the perspective in order to assess their prospective contributions to a nationally/internationally leading effort in the area of Food Systems for Health. The members of the Dean's Task Force are listed in Appendix A.
A Food Systems for Health Program would address the need to implement programs informed by a a new paradigm for research and outreach connecting agriculture and health. This would expand the traditional view of agriculture to include the objectives of human health and well-being and, thus, would facilitate more effective approaches to solving the complex and costly diet-related health problems of society. Cornell could become a leading institution in the area, as the institution has clear and broad collective strengths in many, if not all, aspects of food systems knowledge generation and application. Comparable breadth exists in few other places.

The role of steroids in the control of the plasticity in the nervous system during ontogeny and in adulthood is also analysed.
