Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine has evolved into a complete system of healing through continuous practice and experimentation over the past 2500 years. Chinese medical philosophy views the human body as a dynamic organism animated by vital energy which is in a constantly shifting balance. When this energy is harmoniously regulated, health and vigor are preserved. When the vital energy is disturbed, the organ systems of the body cease to function smoothly and symptoms arise. These symptoms may be due to deficiency of energy in certain areas of the body or obstructed circulation of blood and other nutrient fluids. The goal of traditional Chinese medicine is to re-establish the harmonious function of the body by employing the tools of acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, and exercise. energetic and physiological state. A typical course of treatment with acupuncture will involve an extended initial interview followed by weekly or biweekly treatments for eight to twelve weeks. Then, depending on response and the individual's progress, less frequent visits will follow as symptoms gradually lessen in severity. Treatment should simultaneously lead to a return of vitality, strength, and adaptability.

TAI CHI for health and relaxation
Tai Chi is an exercise system that combines slow, graceful movement with calm, regular breathing. It has many styles and uses in the world today - becoming very popular as a means of maintaining good health and feelings of relaxation and calm. These are the aspects of tai chi which you will find presented here - along with tai chi's associations with oriental medicine and the philosophy of Taoism. The aim of tai chi is to cultivate and circulate the body's vital energy - chi (or Qi) and so, ultimately, to strengthen our state of health. In tai chi the arms move in a relaxed, circular fashion. Steps are taken very slowly, or else the feet remain firmly rooted to the ground - the weight shifting gently from one side to the other as you go. Breathing is centred in the abdomen, and the movements are natural - like a floating cloud or running stream. The author of this page is Robert Parry, who is a writer, practitioner of oriental medicine and a long-time student of Eastern systems of exercise such as tai chi, yoga and chi kung. Extensive research has been done in China through the institutions of traditional Chinese medicine, but only in the past quarter century have biomedical scientists in China characterized and identified active agents in much of traditional medical formulary. The use of traditional oriental herbal medicines and formulas in China and Japan has been studied for therapeutic value in the following areas: chronic hepatitis; rheumatoid arthritis; hypertension; atopic eczema; various immunological disorders, including acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS); and certain cancers. by Jonathan Klemens, BS Biol, BS Pharm
I've always had a penchant for the Orient ever since my days of adolesence when my beloved grandmother, an antique collector, presented to me a unique glass paperweight containing the image of a mandarin official. I was captivated by this noble, but cryptic figure, in full robes from half way around the globe! From then on, I was hooked on the mysterious Far East. My interest grew over the years as I studied various oriental cultures, including their philosophies, martial arts and healing arts.
All oriental medicine is rooted in the ancient concept of Yin and Yang, most often represented by two rain drop, or fish, shapes that form a circle. These two opposing and cyclic forces are regulated by the flow of "Chi" (Ki, Qi, Prana) or vital energy though the body along specific meridians. The body is healthy when Yin and Yang are in balance. The goal of oriental medicine is to ensure good health and promote longevity by affecting the flow of Chi energy to harmonize Yin and Yang.
There are several choices of oriental alternative medicine to seriously consider:
Acupuncture/Acupressure, Chinese herbal therapy, Japanese massage (Shiatsu, Kiatsu), Ayuveda, Yoga, Reiki and Qi Gong (Chi Kung). All of these can be beneficial to help prevent and treat injuries and as an aid in maintaining good health.
