Faculty member and Clinic Supervisior
Qisheng Guan graduated from Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1984. He taught acupuncture and moxabustion at Tianjin College of TCM from 1984 to 1998. Using his fluent English, he has translated many academic works of research for international meetings, world conferences and symposiums. He taught TCM theory, diagnosis and herbal medicine to foreign students at the International College of TCM from 1992 to 1998. THE ORIENTAL MEDICINE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
General Questions Q. What are some of the incentives for obtaining certification in Oriental medicine? A. Graduates of OM degree programs currently have to earn three separate credentials if they wish to be certified in the various branches that fall under the OM umbrella (one in acupuncture, another in Chinese herbology and a third in Asian bodywork therapy). Because of the discrete and independent nature of these certification programs, candidates are required to demonstrate competence in fundamental OM theory each time they sit for an exam in each of the programs that fall under the OM umbrella. This “re-demonstration” of proficiency is redundant and adds an unnecessary burden to both candidates and the NCCAOM. Additionally, in our current system, those that become certified in the discrete branches of
