164. Why Organic?
When organic agriculture comes to mind one has to mention A nonprofit organization serving family farmers and the sustainable agriculture movement.
http://www.newleafmarket.com/eco/organic/
Why Organically Grown?
The term Organic technically means any chemical compound containing carbon.
Sometime in the 1940's J. I. Rodale, founder of the magazine Organic Gardening, began using the term organic to describe flowers and foods grown with the earth's natural resources by composting materials and adding naturally occuring minerals to the soil instead of commercial fertilizers made up of synthetic compounds. Today the term, organically grown , has come to be known as food (including crops and fibers such as cotton) grown without any synthetic pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, or growth regulators. By supporting organically grown foods you are promoting a true crop yielded from soils nourished with their natural minerals. Proper crop rotation and the use of ground covers such as clover helps to build a biologically diverse agriculture. Organic farming practices also help to maintain the natural ecosystem and thus is known as "sustainable agriculture".
Organically grown fruits and vegetables are minimally processed without artificial ingredients and have come to be the standard for top quality, freshness, flavor, and texture.

When finished, the re-modeled infirmary will have 13 rooms, a handicapped bathtub room, a nurse's call system, and a beautiful Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
The entire cost of building, renovation and equipping the new infirmary is $1.5 million. We have raised $225,000 already. We are asking you to help in meeting the remaining cost.

ANIMAL POWER ASK A TEAMSTER Question: Response: It sounds like you've made some very good choices in getting started with draft horses. I commend you, first for being concerned about these seemingly minor infractions, and second for not wishing to jeopardize what your mares are doing well. If for no other reason, safety requires that our horses obey our commands to stop, and do so promptly. We can certainly have a wreck going backwards with horses, just as we can going forwards. Seemingly insignificant, little sloppinesses like you've described (and lots of others) have a way, sooner or later, of escalating into significant problems, or causing a wreck. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" - is perhaps never more appropriate than when working with horses.
