The Eugene Vocational School (EVS) was established in 1938 to provide vocational education for high school students and unemployed adults during the Great Depression. During World War II, EVS trained men and women for defense work. In 1958 the name of the school was changed to Eugene Technical-Vocational School (ETVS), reflecting the addition of more technologically oriented courses. Lane Community College was established in 1964 and ETVS was folded into the new community college, which opened for classes in 1965. Click on photo to view larger image.

KATU Internship Program General Information
KATU Television offers a year-round college internship program for students who have identified their career goals in communications. The aim of the KATU internship program is to expose students to the daily demands and challenges of a commercial broadcasting operation and to provide as much "hands on" opportunity as possible, appropriate to individual interests, training and talents. The duration of the individual internship is synchronized with the academic term of the student's institution (typically 12-16 weeks). While the Human Resources Coordinator oversees the program, each intern is interviewed and accepted by a specific department or program unit. Departments accepting interns include:
  • News AM Northwest Website
Effective January 1, 2002, student interns will not receive compensation but still must receive academic credit through the institution in which they are enrolled. KATU Television, the intern, and the sponsoring institution recognize mutual obligations and regard the intern experience as an important capstone to a college education. Nevertheless, resourcefulness of the student is required, since the primary responsibility of all KATU personnel is the operation of the station.

School Partnerships

Legacy is a recognized leader in Oregon in school-to-work partnerships, particularly in supporting school activities that align with new state education standards and curriculum. Legacy has developed a menu of activities that relate to Oregon Benchmarks, i.e., hospital activities are designed to meet specific benchmarks. Each hospital has goals related to school-to-work activities and partnerships. In 2000, Legacy was awarded the Business Education Compact Most Valuable Corporate Partner Award for its work with schools. Career Exploration
School-to-work partnerships include a spectrum of activities: tours (field trips during which groups tour a business), job shadows (typically a three to six hour one-on-one experience following an employee), classroom speakers (employees share their expertise on a topic), structured work experiences (internship experiences which include work plans with a student performance evaluation) and teacher tours and internships (employers host teachers at the worksite for experiences). Tours
Every year, thousands of students tour Legacy hospitals. Elementary, middle and high school students visit both clinical and non-clinical departments: in Imaging they study lights and shadows; visiting Nutrition Services gives them the opportunity to practice their writing skills and learn about making menus; in Facilities they learn about how machines work.

Things to consider before you enroll in a private vocational school:
Is the school promising you a job when you graduate?
It is against the law for private vocational schools to use any business name, logo or insignia that is designed to be deceptive and mislead potential students about affiliations the school might have. Did you answer an employment agency ad for a job and found you were really calling a school?
Is a course necessary to get a job?
Check the newspaper to see who is offering the jobs you want. Call the human resources departments of some of the companies and ask if you really need a course. How are you going to pay for the course?
Depending on which type of loan you get, you may have to start repaying the loan as soon as you finish school.
It can take many years to pay back the loan, depending on the cost of the course and how high the interest rate is.
Unlike many other types of loans or debts, school loans are very difficult to discharge in bankruptcy.

http://www.clackamas.edu/about/history/two.html
Getting started In 1962 citizens of Clackamas County formed a committee to promote the establishment of a community college. By 1964 they were working hard to get it legally sanctioned by a vote of county citizens. On May 24, 1966, after two years of trying to start a college, 62% of the people voted yes to form the District. After several months the vote was passed that approved an operating budget for the college. Clackamas Community College was now in business.
The first year
Seven part time instructors taught the first ninety-three students at evening classes in Gladstone High School. The college also assumed operation of the three occupational programs of auto mechanics, body and fender repair, and machine shop offered by the Oregon City Vocational School. They also assumed responsibility for most of the adult education classes offered by local high schools, which gave a total head count of 693 students for the 1966-67 school year.
Early CCC Technical Mechanical Department
The second year
As no permanent site had been decided on, the 1967-68 school year saw modular buildings on a temporary site that eventually became known as the Warner-Milne campus. On moving day the entire library was packed up into two boxes and the whole college was moved with one U-Haul truck in a day. Although the Oregon City Vocational School was now officially part of the college, the buildings were to remain another temporary site. For this school year twenty-three full-time faculty members were hired in addition to five administrators, eleven classified, and 225 part-time faculty. The enrollment that year rose to 3,321 students.
