Oregon Tourism Commission Launches New Travel Magazine Publication Designed to Promote State, Inspire Travel presents - Oregon Tourism Commission February 21, 2002 SALEM, OR In a bold move to bolster tourism and increase awareness of the diverse beauty and attractions of Oregon, the Oregon Tourism Commission (OTC) has unveiled an all-new magazine designed to promote travel to and within the state. Called ``Travel Oregon,'' the four-color glossy represents the first time OTC has blended a travel guide with the look and feel of a contemporary lifestyle magazine. The new magazine includes a combination of feature stories on popular Oregon offerings, special interest sections, a calendar of events, and suggested trip itineraries as well as informative advertising. Launching today is the premier 128-page ``Spring/Summer'' issue, which includes feature stories on Oregon's lush public gardens, paddling the wild Rogue River, exploring eastern Oregon, golfing hotspots, five suggested three-day getaways, and the state's bountiful farms and orchards, including recipes to try at home. The magazine represents a significant departure from the travel guide format previously used by the commission, which included mostly facts and figures, offering no feature articles or seasonal focus. New Barge - Hilo Bay Sause Bros ., a major ocean towing firm headquartered in Coos Bay, celebrated the completion of the barge Hilo Bay with an open house for employees and invited guests on Friday, May 14, 2004. Hilo Bay is a double-hull clean products barge which will be used for transporting petroleum products throughout the Hawaiian Islands. The barge is 321 feet in length with a beam of 76 feet. The basic hull and tanks were constructed by Gunderson Industries in Portland, with final outfitting done at SOMAR (Southern Oregon Marine), a subsidiary of Sause Bros. in Coos Bay. Gunderson recently delivered another barge to Sause Bros ., Sunset Bay, which will move to the SOMAR facility for additional work prior to entering ocean service.
