Northwesterners have roots that connect to all the states in the United States and from many foreign countries. Genealogical library holdings reflect this diversity. Libraries close to the conference site with comprehensive genealogy collections are described in this article. People come to Oregon to research their Oregon Trail relatives. Oregon's early settlers left family and friends "back home." As years passed, correspondence decreased and eventually ceased.
