In October of 1849, the Oregon Militia, part of the US Army and the first official US military presence in Oregon, used the Barlow Road to get to Fort Vancouver. Tualatin Basin Governments Moving into Program Phase of Goal 5 Fish and Wildlife Habitat Protection Ten Washington County cities have joined with the County, Clean Water Services and the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District to develop a fish and wildlife habitat protection plan for the Tualatin River Basin. This collaborative effort, known as the Partners for Natural Places, is being completed in cooperation with Metro. The Partners' recommendation to protect environmentally sensitive habitat areas in the Tualatin Basin will be forwarded to Metro late this summer for final approval as part of Metro’s regional habitat protection program. The Partners’ goal is to balance improving natural resource habitat while allowing economic use of properties according to established community plans.
