The staff Executive Director Mike Brawn Office education Directors. Albany SchoolDistrict, Tim Carman District, Jack Crippen oregon State University
http://www.compact.peak.org/whatis.html
What is the Business Education Compact? The word 'Compact' literally means 'a pact or covenant between 2 or more parties'. In our case the pact is to promote excellence and relevance in education to develop a better prepared workforce for the future, and the parties to the covenant are the business and education communities of Linn and Benton counties. The Linn-Benton Business Education Compact is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation. Where did it originate? The Compact was modeled after an established Compact in Beaverton and is similar to other Compact organizations on the East Coast. The Linn-Benton Business Education Compact was initiated in January 1992, formally established and incorporated in September 1992, an Executive Director hired in Febuary 1993 and programs initiated across the region in March 1993. What is the Compact's objectives?
  • Developing programs to promote improvement in math/science education. Promoting further development of educators in understanding business needs and objectives. Developing programs for school-to-work and providing resources to local students and businesses.

Convocation: Frohnmayer urges involvement to map UO's course in trying time.
by Gaye Vandermyn To thrive in the current season of adversity, President Dave Frohnmayer last Friday called on members of the UO community to remember who we are, why we are here and what our mission is. "I am proud to be President of the University of Oregon," Frohnmayer told those gathered for the 2002 Convocation at Beall Concert Hall. "I am proud to be working with each of you to strengthen our universitya proud exemplar along with parliament and the church of this civilization's last surviving medieval institutions and in the case of the university, truly our most revolutionary modern one. I am determined, then, to carry on the mission that this university has delivered for the past 126 years. "We have a responsibility to our state to maintain the quality education that will prepare this generation and future ones for the ever-shifting... challenges that inevitably lie ahead. To do this, we also must address the great challenge of accessibility. If Oregon students cannot afford to attend the University of Oregon, it has in one sense ceased to be the University of Oregon. We cannot allow that to happen. "We have a responsibility to our state to maintain the quality education that will prepare this generation and future ones for the ever-shifting... challenges that inevitably lie ahead."

Student-Led Conferences: A Growing Trend
For years parent-teacher conferences have been the primary means of parent-teacher communication. But now, many schools are trying something new student-led conferences that communicate not only how a student's doing but also why. Parent-teacher conferences we all know how they go. Parents troop into classrooms to talk with teachers about their children's progress in school. Often, the process feels rushed, and parents leave feeling vaguely dissatisfied, as if they didn't really get what they came for. For years that process has been the norm, but now it is changing. In more and more schools, students are leading conferences, and, overall, the word is that they're doing a fine job. Many teachers themselves speak enthusiastically of the advantages of student-led conferences over teacher-led ones. "We found the [student-led] conferences most beneficial," said Keith Eddinger of the Marcus Whitman Middle School in Rushville, New York. "From a teacher's perspective, we were able to get a better picture of each child. It forced us to sit down with each student and review strengths and weaknesses. This conversation often told us the students learned more than perhaps we had measured through conventional assessments."
