Children provide current consumption through child labor and future consumption via an informal social security arrangement. Poorer parents, unable to invest much in their health, face greater mortality risks and are inclined to send their children to work instead of investing in their human capital. Endogenous fertility decisions exacerbate the problem as parents substitute toward quantity investment in children. Oregon Introduction: This site is an educational service of Physician.info that is free for both consumers and providers. It is intended to provide people with educational links to help them: to find a physician in Oregon (find a doctor in Oregon), including information about physician practice locations and credentials: and to find which physicians are on the medical staff at which hospitals in Oregon. While these resources are available elsewhere on the internet, the goal of Physician.info is to provide them all for Oregon through one website. For answers to your health insurance questions, you may wish to visit HealthInsurance.info . Some of the links listed below are specific to Oregon. Other links are general databases that allow consumers to narrow their search to Oregon. This site is for educational purposes only. If you use this site, you agree to do so at your own risk. You should contact providers directly and get information before making any decisions. We do not recommend any specific providers. As is the case with search engine results, the quality of the websites to which the following links go varies considerably. The Wild World of Teacher Recruiting
Teacher Poaching: Districts, states compete for teachers in a wild game of Let’s Make a Deal! Included: Incentives to keep teachers. All’s fair in love, war, and hiring teachers? The situation may not yet be that extreme. But districts with numerous staff openings and the resources to recruit aggressively and pay generously often are reaching across state and district lines to find the teachers they need. And there is little other districts and states can do about it. "There is just no way to defend against it [out-of-state teacher recruiting] when you have no incentives to offer just instability and uncertainty," said Gene Evans, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Education. State budget deficits have led to teacher layoffs and hiring freezes. "Right now, we’re a good place for other states to prospect."
FINANCIAL SQUEEZE
Oregon, like many states, is seeking to balance its budget; state officials are forecasting a $1.5 billion deficit next year, according to Evans. The bulk of education funding in Oregon (about 80 percent) comes from state money, not local property taxes, so the deficit has meant cuts in education funding. About 3,000 teachers may be laid off during this school year if the legislature does not find a way to increase revenues.

This was *the* NBTSC website until I put up this site. It is very much an online community (although I must admit, a big chunk of my brain thinks "online community" is an oxymoron). I can't take any credit for it and I rarely participate, so I'll be free with my (sincere) praise: this is a way cool site. It is complex and well organized and very interactive, and if you are interested in coming to NBTSC soon or down the road, you might want to jump on and get involved or at least check it out. You may at first feel like an outsider, if you are one, but if you introduce yourself you will be warmly welcomed. In fact, that's probably the single most defining characteristic of the NBTSC community, campers and staff, online and off: warmly welcoming. NBTSC PhotoPages
This page, part of the nbtsc community site, has links to lots of campers' photos of camp.

Introduction Taking a Good Look at Instructional Technology (TAGLIT) is a set of assessments and reports designed to help school personnel understand the current status of technology use in their schools. TAGLIT includes surveys for school technology leaders, teachers and students. During the fall semester of 2003, our school completed a TAGLIT assessment. School Technology Leaders: Nicole A. Howard, principal, completed TAGLIT for School Technology Leaders. Vernetta Wallace-Victor, tech. coordinator, assisted with some of the data. Teachers: Five out of seven teachers completed TAGLIT for Teachers. Students: No students completed TAGLIT for students because our small population did not lend itself to student participation. This page provides a summary of some of the findings from TAGLIT. A list of some of the strengths of our school technology program and an action plan that details an area for further work. Although hardware, software and connectivity are important elements of a school technology program, they are not the focus of this page. Elements such as planning, student use, professional development and community involvement receive attention here.
Current Status
TAGLIT results are presented on a 4-point developmental scale.
