The main reason is that as homeschooling becomes more widely accepted, and as states are scrambling to reform their education system, the situation becomes more complex. This program is a state of the art program with classes delivered in a distance learning format with online or videoconference classes. Oregon is really a leader in this area and is setting a model for other states to follow in regards to the comprehensive certification program for SLPAs as well as having a state law that mandates specific training for SLPAs. Students have been participating from across the state and region as well as from other states. I have been encouraged by the positive feedback I have received from students as well as supervising SLPs. I think another component of the SLPA issue across the state is to highlight some of the requirements of the SLPA law documented by the Oregon Board of Examiner’s office.
