Corneas that have had any previous refractive surgery are not suitable for transplantation because of structural and optical compromise to the tissue. Mootha and colleagues examined slitlamp, specular, and light microscopic features of human donor corneas known to have undergone LASIK.

Biocompatibility of Trypan Blue With Human Corneal Cells Trypan blue stains the nuclei of severely damaged and dead endothelial cells of donor corneas, as well as areas of Descemet membrane denuded of endothelial cells. van Dooren and colleagues sought to quantify the toxicity of trypan blue on human corneal cells according to exposure time and concentration.

Does LASIK Cause Retinal Detachment? Myopic patients, who benefit most from LASIK, are also those at highest risk for retinal detachment due to the association between myopia and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). It has been hypothesized that LASIK-induced posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) leads to an association between LASIK and late-occurring RRD, since PVD has been associated with an increased risk of RRD.
Wavefront Analysis in Post-LASIK Eyes Refractive surgeons have long awaited wavefront-guided treatments for patients who have unpleasant visual symptoms following LASIK. The first step in achieving this goal is accurate measurement of postoperative aberrations. A recent study evaluated information and correlated those data with visual symptoms, refraction, and corneal topography.
