Your gateway to 268 community newspapers across the province! Stewardship Ontario To see the report sent by OCNA staff to the recent consultation on containing the cost of municipal Blue Box recycling programs in Ontario. Many other industries likely submitted position papers as well.
As members know, companies whose materials end up in the Blue Box are mandated to pay 50 per cent of the cost of recycling these materials. Blue Box costs are rising quickly and municipalities are balking at efforts made by industry to limit these costs. It is expected that the cost of recycling passed on to industry will increase from $31 million in the first year, to $42 million in the second cycle, to around $50 million next year. read more Media Guide to the 38th General Election in Canada What better place to learn what you need to know to cover the upcoming federal election than with a visit to www.elections.ca? Ontario
The name "Ontario" comes from the Iroquois word "Kanadario" meaning "sparkling water". The name is fitting. Not only is Ontario bordered on the south by the Great Lakes and on the north by Hudson Bay, but one sixth of its terrain, 177,390 square kilometres, is covered by rivers and lakes. Ontario's native Iroquois and Algonquin Indians first encountered European explorers in the seventeenth century. In 1774, the British ruled over southern Ontario, then part of the British colony of Quebec. It was later divided in two and the Ontario region was renamed Upper Canada. When the Dominion of Canada was formed in 1867, it became the separate province of Ontario. With over 10 million people, Ontario is today the country's most heavily populated province. Toronto, Ontario's capital and Canada's largest city, is the country's leading producer of manufactured goods and headquarters of a large number of Canadian companies. Ottawa, the national capital, is also located in Ontario. Industry For further information, click on

Information, news releases and contacts fort efforts toward sustainable community development and revitalizing the lakefront.
    http://www.waterfronttrail.org/
Welcome to the Waterfront Regeneration Trust website! The Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail is located in Ontario, Canada. Once complete, it will stretch 650 kilometers along the shore of Lake Ontario, from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Gananoque. With 350 kilometers already completed, the Waterfront Trail represents an important step towards bringing the vision of a regenerated waterfront closer to reality. In a collaborative effort with municipal partners, the Waterfront Regeneration Trust has been committed to expanding and enhancing the Waterfront Trail. Since the Trail was launched in 1995, it has accompanied the protection of the most valued elements of the waterfront. Under-utilized and environmentally degraded lands have been transformed to vibrant places with businesses and jobs, parks and recreational facilities, green spaces, natural habitats and cultural attractions. It is through the Trail that people have been mobilized to improve the waterfront as they have rediscovered the lakeshore and understood the interconnections, both natural and cultural, that are so crucial to its health and vitality. It is through the spirit of partnership that this vision is being realized. By regenerating our waterfronts, we energize our communities!
