Welcome to OntarioGenWeb! The OntarioGenWeb was created in February 1997 as part of the CanadaGenWeb Project This Project is a NOT a research service it is a collective volunteer effort amongst genealogists worldwide to connect all (or as many as possible) genealogy resources. Divided first by country, each link brings the internet researcher closer to the locality they are searching for (such as using a "zoom in" feature). At the Country Page, the user can then choose the state/province/shire, etc. of preference. This page will have links to smaller divisions (such as counties). click here for a map divided into townships This project is not considered non-profit, nor is it considered a charitable organization, but we do run on the same principles. All work is done entirely by volunteers and given freely (at no cost to visitors!) in the hopes that it will help someone somewhere find that long-lost relation they've been looking for. Please note that OntarioGenWeb volunteers and hosts are not here to do your research for you. We're here to provide information on the web to help you help yourself trace your family tree.

Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads (1980) Photo at Left: Early King's Highway 2 Sign Photograph taken in August 1930 Photographer and exact location unknown Prologue Where does that highway go to? I have asked myself that question many times before, and I'm certain that if you are reading this page, that you have asked this question too. On this website, you will find out where that highway goes to, and more importantly, where it came from. This website is dedicated to the history of Ontario's King's Highways. Ontario has always relied heavily on its roads for development. From the earliest military and pioneer roads to today's modern freeways, these critical transportation links have proven to be the key to developing the economic powerhouse that is today's Ontario. This website looks primarily at the advancements and development of the numbered provincial highway network since 1925. Most pages on this website are now complete, but there are still several pages under construction. If the specific page that you are looking for is unavailable at the moment, please check back soon. New pages are being added weekly. This historical Ontario roads website will include a brief history of each King's Highway by route number, and will eventually include route maps of former Ontario highway routings since the 1920s. There will also be a photo gallery of old Kings Highway signs, mileage charts, route descriptions, and lots of vintage Ontario road photographs from MTO/Ontario Archives. If you have any older photographs of Ontario highways or Ontario highway signs, please

IN 1784 , the land on which Waterloo would later be built was part of a parcel of 675,000 acres given to the Iroquois alliance that made up the League of Six Nations. Almost immediately and with much controversy the native groups began to sell off some of this land. Between 1796 and 1798, 93,000 acres were sold through a Crown Grant to Richard Beasley, with the Six Nations Indians continuing to hold the mortgage on the lands. The first wave of immigrants to the area were Mennonites from Pennsylvania. They bought deeds to land parcels from Beasley and began moving into the area around 1804. The following year, a group of 26 Mennonites pooled resourced to purchase all of the unsold land from Beasley and discharge the mortgage held by the Six Nations Indians. The Mennonites divided the land into smaller lots, and two lots initially owned by

    Animalconcerns info at animalconcerns.org
Sat Mar 20 01:29:54 EST 2004 NEWMARKET, ON, March 19 /CNW/ - The largest fine ever for an animal cruelty offence in Ontario was imposed yesterday when Sandra Quinn, now of Burlington, Ontario received a fine of $12,000 after pleading guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice, Norfolk County, to a charge brought under the Ontario SPCA Act. Quinn was charged in February last year by the Ontario SPCA following the removal of 125 dogs from Cherry Valley Kennels near Waterford, Ontario. She was the first person to be charged under the Act as amended in December 2002 to address offences by breeders of dogs and cats for sale. The amendments set out standards of care that breeders of dogs and cats for sale must adhere to, and enable much stiffer penalties than in the past. In addition to the fine, Quinn also received a ten-year prohibition from breeding and selling dogs and cats. full story: http://www.cnw.ca/fr/releases/archive/March2004/19/c2117.html

        Proposed Imaging Network Ontario
This initiative is in response to a request by the Ontario Research Development Challenge Fund (ORDCF) for assistance from the Ontario imaging research community. A plan, or blueprint , was requested which assisted the ORDCF in harmonizing their investments in imaging research. The following thoughts represented a draft proposal designed to guide and focus discussions on opportunities for imaging research within this context. The primary authors were Aaron Fenster and Mike Bronskill , and the document arose from discussions within a committee chaired by Barry Hobbs. It was intended for wide and open circulation within the Ontario imaging research community and an open meeting took place on January 12, 2000, at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
IMAGING BLUEPRINT PLANNING PROCESS (Strategic Plan)
Steps to achieving our objectives required the following:
      • Consensus on INO Objectives
      • Consensus on Review Process The review process shall be open, responsive, and conducted at an international level. INO will assist ORDCF in establishing an external Imaging Review Board of highly respected international scientists and industrial representatives to review imaging proposals and to advise the ORDCF Board on funding decisions. Written reviews of all proposals will be provided to applicants.

Emily Chesley Comes to London, Ontario
Little did Emily know that one of her uncle's inventions, the Bloomer Disrobing Solution, would save her life and the lives of many young male Londoners too.

The Flannigan family, including Emily, settled in a rambling Victorian mansion on Princess Ave. With steady royalties from Flannigan patents Emily was able to join polite society as a woman of means. The money was good in those days with the success of inventions like the vibratory earwax remover, a device which enjoyed early popularity in spite of side effects that included severe pain, dizziness, headaches and, occasionally, explosive cranial bleeding. Emily missed her pals from the Unity detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police but soon found solace and companionship among the ranks of the 7 th th were quick energetic and wore familiar red tunics. While the regiment accepted Emily completely, Emily had less luck fitting in with the ladies of London who were suspicious of her wild western past. Behind her back she was sometimes referred to as "that Western woman" or "the Irish dirt cutter." Emily ignored these slurs and enjoyed everything the city had to offer, from shopping in its bustling downtown to "taking the air" through long carriage rides to the surrounding townships.

    http://www.chiropractic.on.ca/evolve.htm
The word "Chiropractic" is taken from Greek, meaning, "Done by Hand". Many cultures have used some form of physical manipulation in healing, including the Ancient Egyptians, Classical Greeks, Amerindians, Chinese, and Africans. Bonesetting was a form of spinal manipulation widely used by medical professionals in 19th century England.
Daniel David Palmer is considered to be the modern discoverer of chiropractic. Originally from Port Perry, Ontario, D.D. Palmer began the codification of the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and opened the first school of Chiropractic there in 1897. Bartlett Joshua Palmer, D.D. Palmer's son, was influential in the development of modern chiropractic.
The history of chiropractic in Canada demonstrates the struggle faced by the new profession in gaining legitimacy, and the manner in which chiropractic has become Canada's third largest primary health care provider. The chiropractic profession received mention in the Royal Commission on Medical Education begun in 1915. In its final report two years later, the Commission concluded that there was value in the physical methods of care such as chiropractic; however, it recommended that chiropractic should become part of general medical training, not a separate profession. In 1921, the Ontario Medical Association claimed that chiropractic negatively influenced science, and should not be given consideration under law.
Despite these early setbacks, the Ontario legislature passed the Drugless Practitioners Act in 1925, an umbrella law to regulate chiropractic, osteopathic, and drugless practitioners. Public pressure and the efficacy of chiropractic treatment allowed for the successful inclusion of chiropractic in the Ontario Workmen's Compensation Act of 1937. A Royal Commission formed in 1950 to study the functioning of the Workmen's Compensation Act concluded that chiropractic services should be retained for the benefit of injured workers, against the wishes of the medical profession in Ontario.
