http://www.edweek.org/sreports/tc/policy/states/ok.htm
Technology is a "long-neglected tool" in many Oklahoma schools, the state's instructional technology plan concedes. That neglect stems mainly from inadequate training for teachers and an unwillingness by districts and legislators to provide funding, according to several technology experts in the Sooner State. Join our on-line Town Meeting to discuss what role technology should play in education reform.
A few districts are well-stocked with modern computers and classroom networks, says John Curran, who heads the state's organization of school technologists. But out-of-date technology is the norm; in fact, most schools are "teaching children as if they were still living in the American agrarian society of the 19th century," the state plan says. "Oklahoma has 548 districts; it also has 548 levels of sophistication in technology," state Superintendent Sandra Garrett says. The state has endorsed technology skills as a priority for students, but its financial support has run out of gas at the statehouse. This year, in the midst of a state economic boom, lawmakers boosted overall support for schools by $103 million to $1.6 billion. But they turned down the department of education's request for $62 millionor $100 per studentfor school technology. State Education Agency Web Site:

NASBE Policy Update , Vol. 10, No. 8. National Association of State Boards of Education
Vocational Education
Vocational education, or career and technical education, is an elective program that provides middle, high school, and adult learners with training in a particular career. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, approximately 11 million people are served by the vocational education system in the United States.
The careers require varying levels of education, with some students gaining enough training to enter the workforce immediately following high school, while others may require a four-year college degree. Students may elect to take only a single course or a concentration in a particular trade. The areas of concentration most frequently offered by vocational education programs focus on business, trade and industry, health, agriculture, family and consumer sciences, marketing, and technology.
Currently 15,000 secondary schools offer vocational education courses, including some programs offered through area vocational centers, which serve students from a number of local schools at one central site. Approximately 20% of all high school course work is career and technical education-related.
Each year roughly $13 billion is spent on career and technical education across the country - three-fifths at the secondary level. The federal government provides about seven percent of the funding, mainly through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, leaving states and local districts to fund the majority of programs. The amount of funding provided by states and local districts varies greatly across the country. For example, in New Hampshire all funding comes from local school districts, while in Ohio, the state provides a large portion of the funding to vocational programs.

Introduction

The printing industry has changed dramatically over the past two decades. Recruiting skilled personnel is one of the most difficult challenges facing printing companies nationwide. The problem is multi-faceted; the solution begins with PrintED.
PrintED is an industry developed program dedicated to provide schools with professional direction to meet industry needs. Support must come from printers and their suppliers in every community. With support, GAERF and PrintED will work to develop industry-influenced programs designed to educate students to become members of the printing community.
What is PrintED?
PrintED was developed in 1986 by Printing Industries Association of Georgia (PIAG) at the request of the Georgia Department of Education. In late 1990, Printing Industries of America (PIA) adopted the Georgia program as a national industry-approved accreditation program. GAERF acquired PrintED from PIA in February, 2000. To date, over 100 programs have received PrintED accreditation. PrintED seeks to determine the capability of a program to train entry level workers for a career in graphic communications. It consists of nine standards that cover the elements of a solid training program. Schools that successfully acquire accreditation possess the most up to date industry recognition available nationally for printing education programs. How Does a School Become Accredited?
