FAQ's Site Map Contact Us Home ... Student Life Gordon Cooper Technology Center began operation in 1970 with 10 training programs housed in 70,000 square feet of classroom space. Today, the school is home to 26 full-time programs with over 260,000 square feet of laboratories and classrooms. The school also serves nearly 7,500 adult students annually with short-term night classes and seminars as well as training for business and industry. Five years ago the administration and staff of Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee set out to reach Gold Star School standards. That goal was reached in early August as the entire GCTC staff was honored during the career and technology summer conference at Tulsa Convention Center. School board members Skip Ambler, president, Chandler; Anna Brown, Shawnee; Bob Trousdale, clerk, Tecumseh; Assistant Superintendent Ray Meritt and Superintendent Beth Little went on stage before some 3,500 educators to accept the prestigious award. "That challenging goal unified the staff and motivated the entire school to focus on excellence. Today there is a strong sense of pride and commitment reflected in every aspect of Gordon Cooper Technology Center," Little said. Gold Star School designation is based on rigorous standards involving the entire educational process.
