Performance Assessment Click here for .pdf Section 207 of Title II of the Higher Education Act mandates that the U.S. Department of Education collect data on state assessments, other requirements, and standards for teacher certification and licensure, as well as data on the performance of teacher preparation programs. The law requires the Secretary to use these data in submitting an annual report on the quality of teacher preparation to the Congress. Upon admission to the Teacher Education Program, candidates may begin taking courses that give them basic teaching skills and necessary professional knowledge. Student teaching is the last phase of the teacher preparation program. During this phase, candidates are placed in the classroom for twelve weeks. In 2001-2002, OBU had 53 student teachers placed in various public schools in the surrounding area. Student teachers are supervised by full-time and part-time faculty.
