Does state regularly conduct its own data collection? Yes. The state's technology plan for K-12 schools was written in 1996-97. The state wrote another technology plan this year to include higher education and vocational education; however, it is unclear if the legislature will approve the plan. The state has conducted a cost analysis only of the latter plan. The state will revise the K-12 technology plan on an ad hoc basis. Yes. Oklahoma conducts an annual district survey of technology. The survey focuses on hardware, connectivity, and professional development. The state also works with the Milken Exchange in its data-collection effort. CAREERS IN GEOGRAPHY
GEOGRAPHY: THE SCIENCE OF SPACE AND PLACE
Are you curious about places beyond your front door? Do you want to learn about different cultures, environments, and countries? Would you like to discover why people and places interact as they do? Do you want an understanding of globalization that goes well beyond economic interactions? Do you like maps? Are you concerned about our natural resources and environmental problems? Do revolutionary computer technologies interest you? How about a career that is truly enjoyable? Consider geography. It is the only major that studies both cultural and environmental diversity from a global perspective. Everything happens somewhere ... for reasons ... and with consequences; so geography matters!

Worlds of Fun! Geography Is For Life
By Kelly Curtright
Geography is fun. Geography is about people. It's about us. It is about the world in which we live. Children start learning geography knowledge and skills when they are very young. Hopefully, what they learn they will use their entire life. Geography is more than statistics, climate tables, import and export ratios and so forth. It has a practical use. For example, can your child find his or her way home from somewhere, such as the movie theater or the grocery store, without you there to help? Or during severe weather season, does your son or daughter know where you all live in relationship to other Oklahoma towns and counties? Knowing this information is vitally important, so that they will know when to take cover or that they are safe because the storms are 80 miles away near Enid. Does your child dress appropriately for the weather? This is not useless information for a trivia game, but knowledge that can keep your child safe and alive! As a parent, you are the first geography teacher your child will have. Your child gains a sense of self from you. Your child starts learning from you about his or her place in the family and where in the world your family lives. Within your family environment, your child learns about foods, holidays, shopping, relationships, important people and local landmarks. It is from Mom and Dad that a love of the world, its people and places, will first be learned.

Oklahoma - Geography State in SW United States. It is bordered by Missouri and Arkansas (E); Texas, partially across the Red R. (S, W); New Mexico, across the narrow edge of the Oklahoma Panhandle (W); and Colorado and Kansas (N). The high, short-grass plains of W Oklahoma are part of the Great Plains and, like the rest of that area, are chilled by north winds in the winter and baked by intense heat in the summer. There are extensive grazing lands and wheat fields. The plains are broken here and there, notably by Black Mesa in the Panhandle and by the Wichita Mts. in the southwest, but the general slope is downward to the east, and central and E Oklahoma is mostly prairie, rising in the northeast to the Ozark Mts. and in the southeast to the Ouachita Mts.
