The Cross Timbers RESOURCE BOOK Many Oklahomans are not familiar with the Cross Timbers as a geographic region. Historically, however, the term was well understood by travelers entering the western portions of Arkansas Territory faced with the need to traverse the entangled scrubby oak woodlands of what was later to become central Oklahoma. Geographically, the Cross Timbers acted as a buffer separating the Five Civilized Tribes of Indian Territory from the Plains Indians of the west, diverting most major trails and the early railroad routes to north and south corridors outside the region, and influencing the pre-statehood arrangement of Indian and Oklahoma territories. This resource book is designed to help you teach about the Cross Timbers regionthe largest vegetation area in Oklahoma. The Cross Timbers project and this resource guide have been funded through a grant from the National Geographic Society's Oklahoma Geography Education Fund ( www.nationalgeographic.com/education The Cross Timbers Resource book was too large to place on our web site in html format. The Mission of the Nature Conservancy
The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
  • The Nature Conservancy uses the best available scientific methods to identify, protect and manage elements of biodiversity and their associated habitat. Our conservation work is guided by ecoregional planning . This process identifies portfolios of functional conservation areas within that ecoregion. We will design a conservation plan that will protect viable native species within that portfolio and then monitor the site's success. The Conservancy acquires land through purchase from willing owners or through donation. The Chapter also uses conservation easements, leases, and cooperative agreements with landowners to protect land containing significant species of plants or animals. The Oklahoma Chapter was founded in 1986 . The state office is located in Tulsa, with other offices in Oklahoma City, Pawhuska, and Pontotoc.

18. Facts About OKLAHOMA GAME WARDENS For Young Outdoor Enthusiasts
This exam consists of 100 questions covering the state and federal wildlife lawsand regulations, oklahoma geography, biological and environmental sciences
http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/okgamewarden.htm
Facts about OKLAHOMA GAME WARDENS for young outdoor enthusiasts Game Wardens are some of the most recognized members of the wildlife conservation team in Oklahoma. A Game Warden’s primary job is to enforce the fish and wildlife laws of the state. These laws ensure that only the legal number of wildlife and fish are harvested each year by licensed hunters and anglers. When someone breaks a wildlife law, they are hurting the future of hunting and fishing in our state. Game Wardens do not enjoy arresting violators, but performing this necessary duty is a vital tool in conserving and managing Oklahoma’s wildlife. Every “game hog” or careless violator poses a threat to the resource and enjoyment of others. Sportsmen and women pay for the right to enjoy their sport in Oklahoma by buying hunting and fishing licenses. Game Wardens are public servants sworn to protect wildlife and the public’s interests in the outdoors. A Warden’s day is busy and rewarding! In addition to enforcing laws, Game Wardens have many other duties that bring them in daily contact with people. They start some of their days well before sunrise, helping biologists in their study of wildlife or fisheries problems. From such studies comes the information that will be used to set season dates and bag limits for hunting and fishing seasons in Oklahoma.
