Transfer Policies
Public Colleges and Universities
If you decide to transfer to a four-year university with an associate in arts or associate in science degree (two-year degrees), State Regents' policy guarantees that your associate degree will satisfy all freshman and sophomore general education requirements at the four-year university. If you transfer to another college before you complete an associate degree, you will receive general education credit for courses that match those at the college you wish to attend.
All undergraduate degrees, except for the associate in applied science, require that you take a minimum of 37 hours of required courses in English, literature, math, science, history and the arts.
To help you during the transfer process, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education distributes transfer matrices that outline like-type courses that will transfer among Oklahoma's public colleges and universities. In addition, each bachelor's degree-granting university lists the requirements for each of its bachelor's degree programs and publicizes those requirements for use by all other colleges and universities. For more information, see your advisor or check with the institution to which you plan to eventually transfer. You can also e-mail

The USAO Science Teacher Certification Program is offered through the Division of Science and Physical Education and combines liberal arts learning with teacher preparation. Its goal is to prepare individuals to obtain an Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in science and become effective science teachers. This program is a standards-based program, based upon the standards and guidelines put forth by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) , the State Competencies, and the findings from the "Effective Teacher" research . Collectively, these standards and research findings provide the knowledge base for what science teachers are to know and to do. Individuals successfully completing this program are qualified to obtain an Oklahoma teaching certificate and teach biology, physics, chemistry, and general science in grades 6-12. A provisional teaching endorsement also is available in science. A program checklist for a degree in natural science with teacher certification is provided below. Students wishing to pursue a teaching certificate in science should consult Dr. Peter Thomas

Pre-Education ... About Us
Teaching. It’s been a dream since you were inspired by your favorite teacher way back in elementary school. The teaching profession, as you understand it, is so much more than just providing others an education. It’s about helping, caring, understanding, compassion, inspiring, motivating… and so much more. As an educator you will be able to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and that’s such a good feeling. Yet, acquiring the skills and knowledge you need to enter this profession isn't always convenient or affordable. Many people wanting to earn a bachelor’s degree in education are discovering that time, travel costs and higher tuition rates at a university may limit their career dreams. Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee has a great solution.
OSU-Okmulgee is now offering an associate in science degree in pre-education. This new degree option allows students to earn the first two years of a bachelor’s degree in education at this campus with assurance that all courses will transfer to another Oklahoma college offering a bachelor’s degree in education. This pre-education degree from OSU-Okmulgee saves you considerable time, travel and money by allowing you to remain closer to home for the first two years of study.

Oklahoma Professional Development Ladder What is the Professional Development Ladder? Beginning April 1, 2002—the Oklahoma Registry will begin recognizing the professional development of all individuals working in the early care and education field. This includes the staff of full and part-day programs, family child care providers, school-age child care providers, Head Start staff, trainers, college faculty, consultants, and agency staff of professional child care organizations. Levels in the Oklahoma Registry reflect a measure of formal education gained through attending universities, two-year colleges, and/or technology centers. Research has shown that formal training is one of the major indicators of quality child care. Post-high school course work and degrees have long served as bench marks for most other professions. For those reasons, the Oklahoma Registry Professional Development Ladder awards levels based on either accumulated training, or degrees attained with a beautiful certificate intended for display in the individuals place of employment.

Education funding and opportunities for students is one of my top priorities. It is one of the main "vertebrae" in the backbone of economic development. We must ensure that our nation’s education system is beyond comparison. We must also ensure that every student is afforded the opportunity to achieve his or her own educational goals, that parental rights are protected, and that taxpayer dollars are used responsibly. I.D.E.A.
Discipline Provisions in H.R. 1350, The Improving Education Results for Children with Disabilities Act On April 30, 2003, the House passed H.R. 1350, the Improving Education Results for Children with Disabilities Act which significantly renews and reauthorizes the nation’s special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). While this legislation has received unprecedented support from educators across the nation, those responsible for the critical task of educating children with special needs, there has been concern regarding the discipline provisions included in the bill to streamline confusing policy and improve school safety. Below are important points regarding common concerns related to the discipline provisions in the bill, and the facts to clear up confusion and misconceptions.
