"The Community Health Major is an academically challenging opportunity that prepares students to be actively involved in efforts to address important threats to the health of the public." Department of Community Health The SUNY Potsdam Community Health program, part of the School of Education and Professional Studies, prepares undergraduate students for employment in the community health education and health promotion professions. Students also develop the skills and academic background necessary to apply for graduate studies in Health Sciences. The career opportunities available to graduates of the Community Health program are many and varied; and include: Community-based health education, public health education, human services, tobacco cessation programming, chemical dependency prevention, HIV education, hospice, therapeutic recreation, corporate fitness, alcohol education, adolescent health and occupational and environmental health education. Community Health alumni have found employment with federal, state and local health departments, voluntary and private health agencies, hospitals, schools and private businesses. More specifically, our graduates have found employment at National Council on the Aging, St. Lawrence County Health Initiative, the AIDS Council, Catholic Charities (drug prevention) and many others. | |
