Past Newsletters to the Huron County Family and Consumer Sciences Program Deb Angell, CFCS Extension Agent angell.20@osu.edu 2003 County Highlights OSU Extension partnered with the Huron County General Health District to coordinate Heart Health of Huron County a program aimed to reduce risk factors for the number one cause of death in Huron County, heart disease. Through this Ohio Department of Health funded project, a monthly Heart Health column appeared in the Norwalk Reflector and four issues of the From The Heart newsletter were distributed to over people. Forty-nine county employees participated in the Healthy Ohioans walking challenge. Five restaurants were awarded the GOLD Plate award for offering heart healthy options. Educational displays were developed and used at over ten health fairs. The 20 hour ServSafe™ training was attended by 28 food service managers from a variety of food service establishments. Developed by the National Restaurant Association, this in-depth food safety and sanitation course has become the industry standard in food safety training and is accepted for food safety certification by the Ohio Department of Health.
