Welcome to Ohio County Public Library's periodicals!
August 2003 ed.
Periodicals currently received are listed in bold face type.
Children's magazines are listed in red type.
Young adult magazines are listed in blue type.
Magazines kept in technical services are listed in gray type.
The current issues of periodicals located in "Stacks" with an 'open' date (such as 1992- ) are kept in the periodical reading area for approximately 3 years. The most recent issues are out on the main shelves and older issues are stored in boxes on the shelving adjacent to the periodical reading area. Please help yourself to these. Please note that the library decided to stop receiving all of its microfiche/microfilm at the end of 2002 and will retain the paper copies instead. We will continue to receive microfilm for only the local newspapers in the future.
Back issues of publications marked "Microfiche" are kept in microfiche form at the circulation desk. Ask for them at the circulation desk.
Microfilm publications are in the microfilm cabinets. We regret that some of the older microfilm has deteriorated to the point where it is unusable. If you encounter a reel that is unusable please report it to circulation. West Virginia University has the Wheeling papers on microfilm in their West Virginia history collection at Colson Hall. Reference can provide you with a telephone number to call for their hours. It is not possible to interlibrary loan newspapers on microfilm.
Publications marked "Storage" are in the basement storage area. A staff member can get them for you. Dates vary but many titles are kept only for a 10 year period.

http://scrippsjschool.org/
scrippsjschool.org The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and its mission Journalism today is a profession — like medicine, law, teaching, or engineering. It requires its practitioners to be educated culturally and trained professionally. The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism is housed in Scripps Hall located on OU’s College Green. [see information about Scripps Hall's history]
Blending the liberal arts with professional courses, Ohio University journalism students take approximately three-fourths of their courses outside the professional school.
Six sequences are offered, all leading to the Bachelor of Science in Journalism degree: advertising, magazine journalism, news writing and editing, online journalism, public relations, and broadcast news.
Scripps Hall originally was built as a Carnegie Library.
While there is overlap between journalism and telecommunications in broadcast news career preparation, students interested in being news writers, reporters, and anchors should enroll in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, and students interested in studio and field production should enroll in the School of Telecommunications.
While working toward their degree, students sometimes serve on the staffs of local newspapers. As staff members, students will gather and write news, edit local and wire copy, write headlines, and prepare copy and layouts. This training prepares students to enter the profession immediately after graduation.

    INTERLIBRARY LOAN
  • You are required to leave a $5.00 cash deposit. Items requested from other Indiana libraries usually do not charge a lending fee. Your item must be returned in good condition by the due date to get your deposit back.
  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests cannot be searched by subject. You must have a specific book or the magazine article you want before it can be searched. The more specific details we have, the better the results will be.
  • Generally, an ILL request will take about 1-3 weeks to fill. It all depends on which libraries actually have the books on their shelves, are willing to loan books or photocopy articles, and the length of time it takes for books or articles to get here in the mail or through INCOLSA Wheels. The ILL Dept. will inform customers their ILL materials are in when they are received by the ILL Dept.
  • The length of the loan period on ILL books is generally about 2 weeks. The due date on ILL books is determined by the library who is loaning the book to us. It is not considered to be one of our books. The due date will be written on the blue ILL card which will be inserted in the book.

Dear Lake County Resident: The response to curbside recycling remains outstanding! In 2001, Lake County residents, business and industries recycled 186,263 tons of material. This is an impressive endorsement of Lake County's commitment to the environment! We are pleased to announce that the curbside recycling program this year will be expanded to include additional items for- recycling. Newspaper, glass, cans and plastic will continue to be recycled. New this year is the collection of aluminum trays, empty aerosol cans and metal cookware for recycling. The Board of County Commissioners wishes to express their appreciation to all take County citizens who continue to contribute to the success of our recycling programs. As you have read, financing the curbside program has been a challenge. The Board would like to recognize the significant partnering between local governments and the County to resolve the finance issue. As a result of this teamwork, it is possible to continue the curbside program. Working together strengthens any program, particularly one as widely used as recycling.
    Sincerely
