Geography is the study of the earth's surface. It helps us to know and understand the planet on which we live. Geographers are interested in the earth's physical features as well as the distribution of plants, animals and humans. Geographers use techniques such as observation, surveying, analysis and mapping. They study and describe many details: natural structures such as mountains; human structures such as cities; natural divisions such as oceans; political divisions such as counties; human activities. And they learn how all of these things relate to one another. We have designed this interactive, multimedia program to be an introduction to the Geography of Ohio. No single source, however, will tell you everything that you might want to know about Ohio's geography, and this program is no exception. Therefore, you may want to consult some other sources after using this program. This is especially true if you are writing a paper or report, or if you are preparing for a talk. The web links and books listed below have been used extensively in preparing this program. If you want to look further into the wonderful world of geography, you will find a great deal of useful data and information in these resources.

2001 Secondary SGI The 2001 Secondary Summer Geography Institute focused on changes in the world 1945-present. Morning content presenters spoke on the topics of population, migration, urbanization, political fragmentation, the European union, economic integration, and environmentalism. The examples they used focused on material which Ohio teachers will need to stress for the new Ohio Graduation Test. In an attempt to help teachers more fully align their lessons and instruction to the new Ohio Graduation test, the afternoon lesson samples were geared to specific OGT competencies. Additionally, there were sessions on the OGT competencies, how to write the new type I and type II assessment items, alternate assessment , and creating rubrics. Participants were also guided in the creation of a web-based research assignment in the form of a Web Quest. View the culminating project requirements View images of the SGI. PAUL ELMER FOSTER Paul E. Foster (1919-1998, born Chagrin Falls, Ohio) is my father. This WebSite is composed of memories of his that he wrote when he first started having severe health problems and I asked him to write down his memories for me. They are reproduced here for others' enjoyment and edification. He was proud of his McFarland heritage and traced his roots back, through Richard Warren of the Mayflower, to Scotland. He has written a detailed genealogy. Perhaps his relationship to the real Mother Goose makes him such an engaging writer. He graduated from Case School of Applied Science (Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity) and was immediately commissioned into the U.S. Navy (Commander, USNR) which sent him to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After the war, he moved back to the Cleveland area and worked for Arthur G. McKee and Co. He left McKee and joined our nation's space program. What really ignited a flame in his heart was America's space program. He served as Chief of Technology Utilization and traveled all over the country speaking on the benefits and spin-offs of our space program. He met the original cast of Star Trek and credits the show with making the space program more personal to Americans. He and Julie had two children, Paul Elmer Foster, Jr. (married to Leslie Beck) and Janine Allayne Foster (married to Judge Bruce Woody), and our family traveled all over the country and to other countries. He was very active in his community and church. The songs that accompany the letters represent things which were important to him: his faith, his work, his wife and family, his friends.
