Harrison County was formed in 1813, from Jefferson County on the East, and about 3/4 of the County on the West was formed from Tuscarawas County. Two Northern Townships, Rock and Union, were taken from Harrison County in 1833 and made part of Carroll County. Harrison County is named for William Henry Harrison, Hero of the War of 1812, and the first President of the United States to be elected from the state of Ohio. Cadiz is the county seat for Harrison County. Hello! My name is Janet Birney. I am the Coordinator of the Harrison County OHGenWeb site. I do not live in Harrison County, so I can not do research. Guernsey County was created 1810 March 1, out of Belmont and Muskingum Counties. Portions of Guernsey County were later incorporated into the counties of Monroe (1813 January 29), Morgan (1817 December 29), and Noble (1851 March 11). Guernsey County was named for the English Channel island of the same name, the origin of many of the early settlers. The county seat is Cambridge. The county lies along Zane's Trace and the old National Road (U.S. 40), over which many pioneers traveled in the 18th century to open up America's interior. About the GenWeb Project
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. This is an extension of that project.
