The 30th Annual Meonske Professional Development Conference continues the tradition of presenting leading national authorities from the SEC, FASB, IMA, academia, corporate America—and this year, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (“ PCAOB ”) to discuss the latest external financial accounting issues and management accounting methods. Corporate accounting scandals, executive greed, failure of audit committees, lack of reporting integrity, and the breakdown of corporate governance have given rise to ambitious new legislation. And, legislation has given rise to protracted regulation and endless interpretation. This year our conference speakers are key to helping sort out the regulations, issues and interpretations.

Mission Statement 2: Innovative Graduate Programs Ohio University fosters distinctive and creative master's programs that emphasize preparation for further graduate work and provide students with the skills to excel in professional roles. Financial buzzwords are a staple of Joshua Woodby's vernacular. Trading equities. Fixed-income investments. Diversification. Market risk. But the Ohio University graduate student doesn't arbitrarily talk Wall Street. He walks the walk. As CEO of Ohio University's Portfolio Management Group, Woodby and fellow students are responsible for managing a $100,000 stock portfolio with money provided by The Ohio University Foundation. The project, designed to provide real-life investment experience for students, sparked Woodby's interest in investment research as an undergraduate and led him to enroll in a new master's degree track designed for students considering careers in the investment field. The financial economics track, developed in 2000 as part of the master of arts degree in economics, exemplifies Ohio University's commitment to fostering creative and distinctive graduate programs. The 15-month program perfectly fits Woodby's newfound inclination toward investment research and portfolio management. The Solon, Ohio, native plans to pursue a career in commercial and investment banking as well as money management.

CITY OF TOLEDO
Mayor Carleton S. Finkbeiner Municipal Energy Management The City of Toledo's Municipal Energy Management Program began in 1985 for the purpose of reduction or containment of energy consumption and cost, and to insure occupant comfort and safety in city facilities. The main goal of this program is to achieve a positive and progressive impact on the economic vitality and environmental quality wherever energy is used. On May 16, 1995, the Facility Operation Division, City of Toledo, received an award from Public Technology, Inc (PTI). Over 250 entries were submitted to PTI and Toledo received the highest score for Technology Achievement for energy conservation. Phase I involved $930,000 which was used for energy efficient lighting system retrofit of seven city facilities, financed through the city's Capital Improvement Program and bonds with a guaranteed energy savings for five and one-half years. Phase I surpassed its projected $169,091 per-year savings. Phase II focused on lighting, weatherization, and HVAC retrofit, involving 30 city facilities. It was privately financed and guaranteed by a $3,539,731 lease of equipment and services, with a projected energy savings of $488,076 for seven years. Toledo's Energy Program is currently entering Phase III, involving approximately 30 facilities, and will entail $3.144 million with no initial out-of-pocket cost to the city. Facilities in the program include fire, safety, health, service divisions, senior centers, community organizations, ball diamonds, parks and public schools.
