Kids There are a number of ways to deal with kids getting access to Internet content that is not designed for them. One of the most effective ways is to encourage Web sites to self-rate their content for the presence of adult materials, violence, etc. and add HTML codes to their Web pages so that parents who wish to can screen out any such content on their computers. In support of this effort, we have registered OH! Kids with both of the major rating systems, RSACi and Safesurf. We are pleased that OH! Kids has been rated a "kid-safe" site. QUESTIONS PARENTS ASK ABOUT SCHOOLS What can I do at home to help my child succeed in school?
  • Create a home environment that encourages learning and schoolwork. Establish a daily family routine of mealtimes with time for homework, chores and bedtime as well as time for family activities.
  • Show your child that the skills he is learning in school are an important part of the things he will do as an adult. Let him see you reading books, newspapers and computer screens; writing reports, letters, e-mails and lists; using math to figure change or to measure for new carpeting; and doing things that require thought and effort.
  • Make sure that your home has lots of reading materials that are appropriate for your child. Keep books, magazines and newspapers in the house. You can find many good books and magazines for your child at yard or library sales. Books make good gifts.

Educational REALMS

The U.S. Department of Education required that the official web site of ERIC/CSMEE and all telephone services closed on December 19, 2003. The Clearinghouse already closed permanently on December 31, 2003. We thank you for your support and patronage for the past 36 years. Currently, many of the public domain materials produced by ERIC/CSMEE are available for your browsing or downloading pleasure at the new Educational REALMS Web site: http://www.stemworks.org/ Educational REALMS hopes to pick up where ERIC/CSMEE left off. It is our hope that we will eventually offer many of the same services and resources to anyone interested in science, mathematics, technology, and environmental education. We are staffed by Science Education faculty and graduate students and we are located on the campus of The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. Since January 2004, the Department of Education has been implementing a reengineering plan for ERIC. The new ERIC mission continues the core function of providing a centralized bibliographic database of journal articles and other published and unpublished education materials. It enhances the database by adding free full text and electronic links to commercial sources and by making it easy to use and up to date.
