General Education Requirements Chartered in 1911, Ohio Dominican College is a Catholic liberal arts college with a Dominican tradition. The college offers the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, and bachelor of science in education degrees. Students may choose a course of study from nearly 40 majors. Ohio Dominican's General Education Requirements are designated as General Distribution Requirements (GDR) and are required of all students, regardless of major. The General Distribution Requirements consist of a minimum of 18 courses (61 semester hours). Through agreement with the Ohio Dominican faculty, Columbus State Associate of Arts and Associate of Science graduates who have followed the Core curriculum and elective requirements as listed on the front of the guide will have fulfilled all Ohio Dominican General Distribution Requirements but four (Liberal Studies, Theology, Thematics, and Physical Education). Selection of Mathematics and Natural Science courses should be made according to intended major at Ohio Dominican. Additional major requirements may be fulfilled by following stated requirements in a current Ohio Dominican College Bulletin, choosing Columbus State courses according to the Columbus State/Ohio Dominican course equivalency guide. Majors listed on the guide are examples only. Ohio Dominican Majors Bachelor of Art Accounting

General Education Curriculum The General Education Curriculum or GEC requirements for all students at the Ohio State University consist of a minimum of 110 quarter hours, some of which are to be taken in the junior and senior years. Columbus State and Ohio State faculty and administrators have worked together since 1986 to facilitate the smooth transfer of courses between the two institutions. In cases where Columbus State courses do not have direct equivalencies at Ohio State, Columbus State courses are submitted directly to the Ohio State Curriculum Committee for approval before they are included in the transfer guides. Once approved these courses are included in the GEC lists distributed to college and department offices at Ohio State as approved courses which satisfy Ohio State GEC requirements. These courses are designated as "special" or SPL in the transfer guides. To further demonstrate the strong collaboration between the colleges, in January 1997, the presidents of Ohio State and Columbus State publicly signed a renewed agreement which guarantees admission of Columbus State Associate of Arts and Associate of Science graduates to The Ohio State University with the same privileges and rights as students who began their careers at Ohio State. The document also offers students the opportunity to transfer to Ohio State prior to completion of the associate's degree and have equivalent Ohio State courses applied to the Columbus State degree. Such an agreement is called a "dual enrollment" agreement.

http://www.fairtest.org/arn/ohio_motion.html
The Ohio Education Association, at its 1999 Legislative Assembly, passed the following motion:
OEA's members share the aspirations of most Ohioans for a public education
system that provides a world-class education for Ohio's school children. Our members believe that despite good intentions, the present Ohio Proficiency Tests include assessments of questionable validity and have actually reduced the quality of learning for many Ohio students. We call upon the General Assembly and the Governor to enact an accountability program which would provide for: 1. a system of student standards which incorporates realistic high expectations for student learning;
2. a curricula aligned with those standards;
3. the resources needed to implement the curricula; and
4. valid, reliable, age-appropriate assessments instrument which will
fairly measure students' attainment of the standards. The focus of the assessment program must be on helping students to achieve
and not on punishing students, teachers, and schools. At each step in this process, classroom practitioners need to participate.

Ohio Schools Scramble To Pay For Fitness Equipment
Charity Stops Repayment
POSTED: 10:30 am EDT May 18, 2004
COLUMBUS, Ohio School districts in 20 states are appealing to booster clubs, rearranging their budgets and planning to postpone repairs to pay for exercise equipment they expected a charity to supply at no cost. Many of the 600 districts owe more than $100,000 in loans and leases for the bikes, weightlifting machines and treadmills. Some larger districts that bought 10 or more sets of equipment for multiple schools are stuck with bills for more than $1 million. At least one owes twice that much. LIST: Schools With Equipment Under an arrangement with a Utah-based nonprofit organization, 119 schools in Ohio bought or leased sets of equipment for $100,000 to $220,000. The National School Fitness Foundation said it would reimburse schools a portion of the cost each month by raising money from private donors and government grants that support fighting obesity.
