Ohio city under martial law, hundreds arrested
2,000 demonstrate against police violence in Cincinnati
By Barry Grey 16 April 2001 Use this version to print Send this link by email Some 1,000 people attended the funeral April 14 for Timothy Thomas, a nineteen-year-old black youth gunned down the previous Saturday in the latest in a series of fatal shootings of blacks by police in the southern Ohio city of Cincinnati. Following the service, mourners joined with hundreds protesting the police killing outside the church and marched peacefully through the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood where Thomas was shot. Some 2,000 people of all races participated in the march. The killing of Thomas, who was unarmed, sparked three days of rioting, centered in the impoverished, mostly black Over-the-Rhine district that adjoins downtown Cincinnati. Mayor Charlie Luken declared a state of emergency April 12 and imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew throughout the city of 331,000.

Here are links to more than 700 women's studies (including "gender studies") programs, departments, and research centers around the world that have web sites. Programs and departments offering graduate degrees or concentrations have this fact noted in an annotation below the link. For a larger list of women's studies programs, including those without web sites, see the September issue of the Modern Language Association's journal PMLA or Gerri Gribi's listing of Women's Studies programs in the U.S. For information about institutions offering Women's Studies graduate and undergraduate degrees online, see Online Degrees in Women's Studies NOTE: After I had started putting this listing together, Kate Robinson told me about an annotated collection of links she has compiled of Women's Studies programs in the United States . I've decided to leave my links up as well, especially since they include programs outside the US , and since I keep learning about new sites. (My listing now includes more than 700 links; I last updated it on March 22, 2004
