The Office Skills Center is a unique learning experience. Instead of taking your classes in a traditional classroom setting with one instructor teaching one course at a time, you will take your classes in a lab setting where you will work on one class at a time in a self-paced format. You will be given up to 25 lab hours to complete your course. An instructor is assigned to each lab and is available to assist you, as needed. Your lab instructor will critique your work as you complete each assignment, ensuring that you have mastered the assignment before you go on to the next one. Employment Potential
Students who successfully complete this program have the opportunity for such jobs as administrative assistant, database manager, executive assistant, spreadsheet specialist, clerical supervisor, office manager, or word processing specialist.
Requirements for Program Entry
  • High School diploma or equivalent Satisfactory placement in Entering Student Assessment
Developmental Assistance Available
For students who do not meet basic reading and math requirements, or who have other learning issues, extra assistance is readily available through SUNY Ulster's Learning Center, Times Square math lab, the Writing Center, the Peer and Friend Tutor Program, and English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors.

Real Time Sessions: Monday evenings, May 3, 10, and 17; 9:30pm - 11:00pm ET. COURSE DESCRIPTION: The receptionist/front office staff plays the most critical role in the success or failure of a veterinary practice. It really does not matter how excellent the patient care is from the veterinarians on staff, the practice can be made or broken depending on the front desk staff. A client will always remember their first few minutes at the clinic along with the last few. A unified front desk staff will create a loyal clientele that will assure compliance with the doctor's recommendations. Your front desk staff will attract new clients, solidify the current clients and generally improve productivity and efficiency in your veterinary practice. This course is for all receptionists, front office staff and also those assistants and technicians who fill in at the front desk. There is a required text for this course, see information below. All veterinary staff wishing to enhance their front desk skills are encouraged to register. This course covers those essential skills needed to improve productivity and efficiency in the veterinary practice.
